Alright, today I'm going to be breaking down Defensive Tackles vs. Defensive Ends. I'm going to directly compare them based on certain stats (mainly Tackles and Sacks) but I would like to note a few things.
First, In my other article, I weighed Tackling, Sacks, TFL and Forced fumbles the same to build an aggregate score. They will not be weighted the same here. Sacks will be worth 3 tackles, TFL is worth 1.5 tackles. Forced Fumbles are worth 4 tackles.
Then I'm going to take the average Tackle, TFL , FF and Sack and multiply it by the weights from above. If you would like to see a different weighting, just ask.
Anyways here we go:
This is the average Tackles, Tackle for Loss, Forced Fumbles and Sacks for every defensive linemen across the 2 seasons:
Now after we weight that and get an adjusted score we come out with this:
*Drum roll please*

Alright, Surprise suprise. Both run stopper and power rusher are still very strong and I would consider them the god tier archetypes.
One thing to note is that all of the defensive ends win out against the defensive tackles.
I've marked balanced in red due to the fact that is is about %1.2% worse than every other defensive end archetype, however I kept speed rusher yellow due to the fact that it is unique with the amount of speed it can get.
Next lets talk about defensive tackles. Playing the best defensive tackle archetype is about 3.32% worse than the best defensive end archetype... and still worse than any defensive end.
Interior rusher is good because you trade off some speed for tackling. Both DE and DT have the Pass rusher vs the run stopper as being the top. (I'm considering power rusher the best pass rushing build).
Anyways balanced is red for me because it is basically a strictly worse run stuffer. I've already talked about that previously and managed to get it less nerfed than the plans when it was going to be nerfed.
Nose tackle takes a massive dive here.
Now there are some things to note. Defensive tackles can be much heavier, but does that really matter? I'm not so sure. If it is having an effect, it doesn't have to do with the output of stats. It would have to be something hidden.
For example, Maybe a defensive tackle is gumming up the running lanes on the interior so the runner has to bounce to the outside. A defensive tackle will not get any stats for that but it positively impacted the defense on that play.
Feel free to ask me any questions.
Also, BRB rerolling defensive end.
