Hello my dear ISFL readers, Rony Tomo here from Football Weekly, and today we bring you the first OMD sports agency interview in a few years. Long after the start and finish of Stewart Hellraiser's career, we find the second entry into the sports agency's player stable. After a short stint with the Kansas City Coyotes if the DSFL, Wide Receiver Stetson David was selected 22nd overall by the Norfolk Seawolves. Coincidentally, Hellraiser played his DSFL career in Norfolk as well. So we sat down with Stetson and chatted about his life to this point in the DSFL.
Rony Tomo: Good morning Stetson, thank you for joining me today. It's been a whirlwind few months for you since you hit the DSFL scene hasn't it? From the late season pickup, to the draft and now an exciting offseason training, you've been going full bore. Tell us about that.
Stetson David: Well thanks for having me. Ya it's been a crazy couple months. It's flown by though, let me tell you. After the college season finished, we wanted to set ourselves up as well as possible for the DSFL and my agents figured the best way to do that was to get in a few pro games and hope for the best. Kansas City was quick to get us on waivers, which I appreciate, I was able to get in a few good days of practice before a few games to end the year. It was tough playing out the string, but everyone was great there. Coaches, staff and the other players were super welcoming and played hard even though we finished last. Felt good to see and experience the speed change from NCAA to DSFL too, definitely was some adjustment and wide eyes to begin with. I think I was just hitting my stride as the year ended, which sucked, but what can you do? Then we got right into draft interviews and workouts. There were only a couple teams interested, but we thought that may be case with so little tape on me and a bit of a lack of need for wide receivers. Teams seemed pretty tight lipped on if they'd pick me, so I wasn't sure what to think. We had a feeling I'd fall in the 20-30 range of the draft, and well, that was a pretty damn good guess. I had had a great conversation with Norfolk and with the OMD agency having past ties there, the fit was a good one. Turns out a former teammate of Stewart's was in the GM's ear and hyped me up pretty good. So that certainly helped. Since the draft, we've been busy with offseason training camps and workouts. I'm working hard on a more explosive first step and getting up to full speed as quickly as possible. The defenders in these leagues are much faster than I'm used to and I felt I was a step behind at times.
RT: Great stuff, sounds like you're fitting in well. What are your personal goals for this season? 1000 yards? 10 TDs? Fewer than 10 drops?
SD: Well I try not to think of goals in a numbers sense, more of a progression thing. I just wanna get harder, better, faster and stronger each practice and each game and hopefully it works out in my and the club's favour. To put a number on it is just too hard, cause there are so many variables.
RT: What are your thoughts on the next ISFL draft? Any idea where you may head once that rolls around?
SD: I honestly haven't given it any thought to this point. I'd imagine most teams are looking ahead to the current season and probably won't giver much thought to the draft for a couple months yet. Which is almost good in my case. I believe I have some catching up to do to other receiver prospects and the entire draft class. I'm sort of behind the 8 ball so maybe I can put a few really good games before teams start doing their homework. Long way to go before I'll be too concerned about the draft.
RT: Ok, well maybe a couple to finish that might be a little out of left field. What video game world would you want to live and what character would you be?
SD: That's the easiest one you've asked yet. Definitely Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. I think dragons are pretty cool, and medieval times is an interesting time period. So I'd go there in a heartbeat. And obviously I'd be the Dragonborn. Get to lead every faction in a matter of a few missions, eat dragon souls to strengthen yourself and be able to shout animals or people off the side of a mountain? How could you not?
RT: And finally, what's your favourite movie series?
SD: Oooh that's easy but hard. Might ruffle some feathers too. I'm gonna say Star Wars, save for the last 2 sequels and Solo to an extent. Long bus rides in high school got me hooked and then some off time got me into the TV shows and all the newer one off movies. Can't go wrong with most of them. Other than the last 2 sequels. Those were disappointing?
RT: Good choice! Which movie and TV show are best?
SD: I'll go with Clone Wars for TV show and....... wow this is a tough one.... Revenge of the Sith for a movie. Followed VERY closely by Rogue One.
RT: That's all the time we've got before the deadline. So thanks for this and good luck this season in Norfolk
