Hi friends. I am sure that some people have noticed that I am pretty checked out of ISFL things. I have been in the league for over three years, and I am moving on to a new part of my life for a bit. I have set a goal for myself to finish my PhD dissertation by the end of next January, so I am reevaluating my life and priorities and deciding how to best spend my time.
I have enjoyed being part of this league these last 3+ years. I have met so many interesting people, even a few in person, and I have done a lot of fun things. Especially early in the pandemic, having an online community like this helped me stay sane through the work-from-home years.
Here are some of the highlights of my time here.
Being drafted by Tijuana
3 seasons as Tijuana GM and an Ultimini
Being drafted by NOLA
9 seasons as NOLA GM and two ASFC championships
I started the Dotts trading card project with the help of a lot of talented people, and was the head of the department for over a year in real life.
I started the project and server for an All-Pro voting team with the intent to write more seriously about awards and look at more detailed efficiency metrics and analytics in awards discussions. That group now is the official All-Pro voters for the league.
I have enjoyed being involved with the league-adjacent Town of Salem game server for over a year.
I loved writing league media, especially early on in my time here.
Not gonna lie, I never really cared for the sim engine.
I have a player in the Hall of Fame, which is pretty cool.
Thanks to all the wonderful friends I made along the way. To everyone in Tijuana, NOLA, ISFL GM Chat, Dotts, ToS server, those I got to know better in the WSBL or PBE, and the All-Pro writers, thanks for the good times. I will likely still be checking in on Discord decently regularly, but in terms of official league activity, I am taking a break.
My player, Elessar Jones has had a terrible career. Since NOLA is rebuilding, he won't be around for any good seasons, so I plan to let him coast until he's not valuable to NOLA anymore (as if he ever was, lol!) I may recreate next year once I finish my degree, but who knows what the future holds. I plan to severely cut back on the time I spend on Discord, so you won't be seeing me around much anymore starting next Monday.
Thanks for all the good memories.
