Dear ISFL,
I'm writing to you today to let you all know that I am stepping away from the league indefinitely. I don't plan on fully leaving all discord servers or anything so you'll still be able to reach me, but I am no longer going to be active in a league capacity.
The reasoning is pretty boring - I just have way too much going on in my life, and after landing a new job a few months back I've been so much busier at work that I can't really slack off here anymore like I used to. It has nothing to do with anything related to the league - I'm not shaking my fists at HO, I'm not upset about any recent events, I'm not so angry that I'm rage quitting the league, and I have no qualms with any of the users here - and for that, I'm very grateful.
Briefly I want to talk about my player history. The Portland Pythons were the first DSFL team to give me a chance on the field, and that is where I made some of my first meaningful connections in this league. Not long after, my NSFL career started in Orange County, who took a shot at me in the first round despite not a single user in the league mocking me even close to that draft position. From there I would win 3 straight championships with my player AJ Lattimer, who had a very solid career at DT/CB. My next player, Captain Rogers, had another solid yet not quite hall-worthy career, but had a bit more turbulance. He started in Norfolk, where I had an amazing time with some amazing friends. I was drafted to Baltimore, later traded to Philadelphia, and then wound up at home in New York, where Rogers would set and still to this day hold some rushing records with the still fairly new team (69 rushing TDs, nice) while winning 2 titles. My current player, Anthony Stark, got his start in Bondi Beach and would be immediately be called up after being drafted first overall by the Colorado Yeti. While the team success hasn't been as prominent as previous players, Stark was able to make a couple pro bowls and be named an All-Pro once as one of the best CBs in the league. Hopefully someday he can be my only player to make it to the Hall of Fame, an accomplishment that I've really wanted but ultimately never got in my time here. I would like to thank every single team I've been a part of, even the ones I've had shakier experiences with, for giving my players so many great opportunities and for allowing me to meet and interact with some outstanding people in my time here.
I want to highlight some of my previous job history and contributions I've made to this league, because I am very proud to have been able to make an impact on how a lot of people experience this league. After my first few months here and a couple failed applications to the RM head at the time, I was finally hired on to be a Rookie Mentor way back in S18. This happened to be one of the best things to have happened to me in the league, as I made many of my friends there that I still talk to today. I held that position for over a year in real life, and the amount of people I was able to help in that time really gives me pause. I truly do hope that I was able to make an impression on them and help them get their start here. In the middle of that, I also was first an intern for Head Office before becoming the Hottest HO in the league. From there I was given the keys to the Rookie Guide, of which the redesign and complete overhaul of it was a passion project of mine that was continued on by other members of the league after my iteration of it was completed. I was in charge of regression at the time too (all by myself! You youngins went and created a whole team for it, why didn't I think of that? *shakes fist*), and was a major advocate for making HO a more approachable and transparent entity. I'd like to think I made a positive difference in my time, and hope that I was able to help make the league a better place. After taking a break from league jobs for a bit, I rekindled my passion for the ISFL discord by heading up the inaugural Community Moderation team, now the Community Engagement team. I was deeply saddened by how barren the general discord had gotten and with the overwhelmingly negative reputation it had gained, so I made it a goal to turn that completely around. While I know some will never trust the general server enough to ever join again, I truly do believe we made a lot of progress towards my vision, and after re-vamping the server the activity in it has skyrocketed. Although my second stint as head of the team hasn't been nearly as inspiring, I'm happy that I was able to do positive work for the community. All this said, I expect my user hall of fame induction card to come in the mail shortly (kidding, of course).
Now getting more personal. I created discord because of this league. After I got my start here this league became one of my proudest hobbies. This community has been something I've been passionate about ever since. I've been honored to be able to talk to hundreds, if not thousands, of different people from all over the world for these past few years. As a small town boy from the middle of a cornfield in Iowa, I was able to make legitimate lifelong friends here with people I would never in a million years have been able to meet otherwise. I was able to make a podcast while getting drunk with a friend from the Isle of Man, who was recording in a freaking castle (we won't talk about how that ended). A beautiful Finnish man regularly sends corgi pics. I was able to meet a couple of people closer to my location in person for a beer. One of my best friends is a man from Mississippi who I could go on and on about what a special person he is. Hell I attended a wedding virtually for one of my great friends here, and damn his booty was dummy thicc that day. These few stories are just a drop in the bucket, I could tell so many more unique ones about many, many more people. So god damn many of you fine people have all made such impressionable impacts on my life that I'm tearing up thinking about it. And if the opportunity arose I would be so grateful to be able to shake the hand of every single one of you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being as awesome as you are.
Maybe I will be around again in the future, in case I do please grade this so I have some funds left over lol. Like I said before though, I will still be in discord and will still pop in from time to time to shoot the shit. I mean, where else am I gonna talk and rant about football when the NFL season starts? Until then, hopefully the corpse of Stark will continue to help out the Yeti and that our community stays positive and welcoming for all.
With Love,
TeyonSchavari
