Rolund has always gotten along with just about everyone he has yet to meet a player that he didn't get along with but he has recently gotten in to a rivalry with a local man that works at a deli near the Cape Town training faciality. The man in question is Jerry Wells the man behind the counter at the Wells Deli. It all started one day when Onyxgut was about town looking for a good place to eat and found the deli, he went in looking for a sandwich and some cheese which he found but he also found in Cape Town of all places a Portland Pythons fan who needless to say was not super excited at the sight of the former Buccaneer. The owner of the deli (Jerry Sr.) tried to give Rolund his food for free but young Jerry said Onyxgut will never eat free as long as he's working and Roulnd really took this interaction to heart because if there is one thing he hates is losing out on free cheese.
History is the study of past events and understanding how they shaped the world into what it is today. Though not World War levels football rivalries have impacted the development of ISFL team cultures. After recently joining the New Orleans Second Line it became imperative to uncover the history of my new home. Digging through dated wiki articles and talking to local historian @UptownCord, I was able to uncover the tale of the NOLA and Orange County rivalry. A tale as old as time, to rivals pitted against each other, baking it out on the football field and discord servers. Though it had appeared for a time that the rivalry had fizzled and then lost to time. I took it upon myself to revive it, and like the mythical Phoenix the rivalry has been reborn from the ashes. Gifs and emotes depicting the teams in silly and disparaging ways have surfaced and given new life to this old tradition. I can't wait to see how it flourishes.
OCO stinky. :oco16: @shrub02, @Hydrium
I suppose the best answer I could provide would require going back to my first player who player in Honolulu. During that time, two teams stand out as rivals, not so much on a personal basis but more so because they seemed to always make things difficult. New Orleans and Baltimore games were always more difficult than they appeared. I had been involved in testing during my first player and during that time New Orleans and Baltimore had patches where they were in somewhat of a rebuild so testing those matchups was fairly promising. I'm talking like 70%+ win percentage with double digit point differential, but sure enough when it came to watching the sim the results didn't really reflect that. Playing New Orleans was like getting punched in the gut, always an agonising loss in some way shape or form. In fact the first deep Honolulu playoff run was ended by New Orleans in the Conference Championship Game which looked like a favourable matchup for us at the time. Baltimore played like they had a vendetta for taking away Corvo and seemed to always result in a tighter game than what was expected going into the matchup.

Double Doink is the reason Bob Kickerson is a kicker. Playing rugby in England, it was Double Doink's exploits kicking a ball between two posts that inspired Bob to pursue his ISFL dream. Now that Bob finds himself sharing a league with Double Doink in his ISFL rookie season however, it's a completely different matter. Bob Kickerson must prove himself the greatest kicker to kick a ball, and that means Double Doink must be crushed under the weight of Bob Kickerson's excellent kicking and punting stats. So far, it's not actually going too badly. Double Doink has made 9 of 9 field goal attempts, whereas Kickerson has made 13 of 14, missing one of those pesky 50+ yard ones. Double Doink's longest made field goal is 52 yards. Kickerson's? 53 yards. Not bad for a rookie season. Sure Double Doink is on the long regression road to retirement, but you've got to beat what they put in front of you.
When you're the undisputed champions of the ISFL, everybody wants a piece of the crown. There are no unimportant games on the road to a championship, every loss can spell disaster for the future of the season. Which is why our rivals, the Chicago Butchers, had our number last season. On the Cape Town Crash's 13-3 championship run, two of our three losses were to the Butchers. In week four, the Crash lost a nail-biter to Chicago 31-30 after starting the season on a 3-0 streak. Even the best teams have bad games and can come up short, so after one loss the Crash were not discouraged. But perhaps the Butchers had gotten in our heads early on in the season, because the very next week, we dropped the ball against Orange County. Our perfect season had gone from 3-0 to 3-2. So the Crash decide to fight back and charge the competition, going on a seven game win streak after the loss to the Otters, which brings us to 10-2 heading into week 13. We were ready to get revenge on Chicago and show them that our first loss to them was a fluke. After the dust had settled, the Crash were on the losing side of another embarrassing loss. This time it wasn't close, 26-19. The Butchers officially had our number. We closed out the regular season with three more wins, bringing us to 13-3 on the season, and giving us the momentum we needed to finish the mission and come home with the championship. But just because we won the championship, doesn't mean we would start off season 42 satisfied. After kicking off season 42 with a win against the season 40 champs, it was time for a rematch against our new rivals. The Crash had more to prove than just protecting the championship, we had to prove that we could conquer our demons and show that the Butchers can't hang with the best. After four more quarters of battle against Chicago, the Crash finally got the Chubby Dubby that they had been looking for. A 37-19 win over the Butchers. Could it just be a fluke? Find out week 13 when the Crash and Butchers collide once again in season 42.
In terms of overall league history, I would say that the Outlaws and the Otters have been rivals since day 1. With both teams dominating the league in the first 25 seasons, trading dynasties, the rivalry was put on pause as the Outlaws started their true run of domination of the ASFC and the Otters went into many disappointing seasons. However, even though the rivalry seemed lost, the new age Otters seem to finally be open to reopening this rivalry, as they are now a challenger for the top team in the ISFL. This is mostly helped by the Outlaws retooling of QB and RB taking place, but the Otters have used these rebuilding seasons to build a strong defense which has the potential to steal some games against the Outlaws, hopefully the teams meet again in the playoffs for the 3rd season in a row, giving the otters a chance to get on the board in the win column and make this a legit rivalry.
I've played in this league a long while with the Otters and Franklin Armstrong, with Big Slammu primarily on the Hahalua, and now with Alita Battle Angel again on the Hahalua. If there's one team that's been a constant, it might be the Arizona Outlaws. They are a storied franchise with multiple Hall of Fame players and have won many Ultimus championships. The frustrating thing is they are often very good, even when their great players retire. It seems they have a "next man up" mentality that has been a constant thorn on my side. Their Hall of Fame QB retired and yet again, they're leading the ASFC with fresh blood at the position. They are constantly chugging along. I actually find it quite admirable if not downright frustrating. And in S42 it seems that yet again, the ASFC will be decided by a showdown with the Arizona Outlaws.

I’m gonna take this a different route with my rivals piece. I am the rival. As I am currently the best defensive lineman in the game. When someone wants to play defensive lineman. They think of me and say “Man one day I wish to be as good as Joseph Reed.”. I am the giant who shoulders you can stand on.
If I had to list a couple people who are close to being on my level Carly Rae Jensen. One day you will be the best DT in the league. The day after I retire. Keep trying kiddo. The next DT I can think of is Christian Marciano. He is getting good sack numbers. But I would like to see the tackle number come up a bit. Hey, my last rival goes to an entire group of people. Linebackers. They are my biggest risk to the sack title currently. They are a lot of them with great stats. Cruella de Ville is currently leading in sacks. Good luck rivals, may we meet at the top. |
