I know what you're thinking: Oslo?
Oslo?
OSLO??!?
OK hear me out on this. I made a similar proposal back in S36 but I think we need a refresher. For too long, the Ultimus location has been decided by what location we think is unique, cool, culturally significant, yada yada yada. This season, we need to think about the most important reason to choose a host city location: distance travelled for the farthest teams.
That's right! This bid is based on an equidistant point between the most distant East-West teams and North-South teams. Let's first take a look at all the teams charted out on the map:
note: the number is based on your standing in the index from left to right as of 6/23, and I think the actual points are shifted down slightly
The first thing that really jumps out is there is NO representation from Asia or South America in our league. What gives? Aren't we supposed to be the INTERNATIONAL simulation football league? Not the MAINLYNORTHAMERICAWITHAHANDFULOFOTHERCITIES simulation football league (what a mouthful). I expect this to change in the coming seasons, especially as we get closer to our 50th season as a league.
Now, the actual charting. Based on the above, the most distant teams in either the ISFL or DSFL are Bondi Beach and Honolulu (East and West), and Yellowknife and Cape Town (North and South). Why include the DSFL? BECAUSE DSFLERS ARE PEOPLE TOO but actually because this bid could not win (but let's be honest, by this point I've completely hooked you, I'm sure) and host the Ultimini, and also because if I didn't use Bondi Beach then the intersection happens in the State of Roraima in South America. Not that I don't love South America, but @Starboy recently submitted this host city bid for Buenos Aires, and I wanted to be a little original. Hence, Bondi Beach.
The chart:
Image is a little fuzzy due to overlay/opacity I had to use for screenshots in a free map tool, sorry about that. But we have a clear intersection in Norway, just a little off the coast of the North Sea. About a hundred miles away lies Oslo, capital to Norway, and home to Ullevaal Stadion, Norway's national soccer stadium:
Seems plenty large enough for an event such as the Ultimus. Finally, the logo. I went with a basic approach, simply adding on to the Oslo coat of arms:
That about wraps it up. Thanks for checking this out, and hopefully see y'all in Norway!
