Charple’s Mid-season Team Analysis
As Prep, my analysis won’t be perfect as I excluded K/P, BOTs, and used the Average TPE of the position, which itself can be a flawed way of looking at things, but I did anyway. Players currently in the DSFL are not factored into the Strengths and Weaknesses rankings also. I'm impatient and didn't proofread very well either, so apologies ahead of time.
(In index order)
ASFC
Arizona Outlaws
The Southwest Stompers
Current Record (6-2)
This Time Last Season (3-5)
Strengths: Running Back, Linebacker,
Weakness: Safety
This time last season, the Outlaws began a non-stop regular season win streak, leading to their Ultimus Appearance and unfortunate defeat. Currently they are in a three-way tie for 1st in their Conference and if they can repeat their insane 2nd-half streak, then we should expect to see them at Ultimus again. (If this team does nothing but win, then I predict they’ll win Ultimus, duh).
As far as Team Composition, they boast strong offensive weapons, with almost all positions at or nearing 1k TPE, and currently are the best Run Offense in the league. Their Aging Defense relies on their strong LB Trio with all over 1k TPE, the Premier DT Raphael McTurtle, and a mix of veteran and young players in the backfield. Their LB Trio and leading DT have crushed all Runs, placing them as the best Run Defense in the league.
Honolulu Hahalua
Glass Cannon turned Fishing Net
Current Record (6-2)
This Time Last Season (7-1)
Strengths: Quarterback, Wide Receiver, Defensive Tackle,
Weakness: Safety, Offensive Line, Defensive End
Last season, the Hahalua were a blast to watch, and a bane to predictions, due their successful high powered offense. This season, we’re seeing a different Manta Ray, out of the Winning Trio the Hahalua have been the least successful on Offense, and have switched to being one of the stronger Defenses in the league, particularly against the pass. Going off the League Index, their passing offense does not seem to be doing very well this season. My prediction is that their passing attack will improve through the season.
Austin Copperheads
Most Venomous of Vipers
Current Record (6-2)
This Time Last Season (4-4)
Strengths: Quarterback, Wide Receiver, Defensive End, Defensive Tackle, Cornerback,
Weakness: Tight End
Best Offense in the Conference, and a very good Defense. I was surprised their Defense numbers weren’t better with the well-rounded TPE average of their Defense. Out of the three, up top, the Copperheads are my personal favorite to win the Ultimus for their conference. I would also expect them to be in the running for the next several seasons.
New York Silverbacks
Hidden King of the Concrete Jungle
Current Record (4-4)
This Time Last Season (3-5)
Strengths: Linebacker, Wide Receiver,
Weakness: Tight End, Offensive Line, Defensive End
This is an interesting team, right now they are 4-4, but are top 4 in their conference in all areas of Offense and Defense. In the index you can see that they are the best overall Offense in Yards Gained, and Passing Yards gained; and best overall Defense in Yards Allowed, and Passing Yards Allowed. I would expect to see some kind of catch-up with their Offensive points, because I don't know what else they can do to gain a lead in their conference. They beat other teams on the field, but not in the final outcome of the game and out of their whole conference I believe they might be the best.
Orange County Otters
Otter Treading Water
Current Record (3-5)
This Time Last Season (5-3)
Strengths: Quarterback, Offensive Line, Running back, Cornerback
Weakness: Defensive Tackle
In my opinion, this is the true middle of the pack team this season. They contain a healthy mix of Offensive and Defensive weaknesses and Strengths. Historically the Otters were the premier run team in the league, but that aspect of the game has been lacking this season, and it hasn’t been made up at all by any improvement in their passing game. It would be interesting if the Otters, having acquired another Tight End, make some changes to the way their offense works to try and push for the playoffs.
San Jose SaberCats
Return from Extinction
Current Record (2-6)
This Time Last Season (4-4)
Strengths: Quarterback
Weakness: Offensive Line, Tight End, Defensive End, Running Back, Wide Receiver, Defensive Tackle, Cornerback, Linebacker
The Sabercats may be a contender in a couple of seasons, but this year is not their year. I see them as having weaknesses in almost all facets of the game, which is likely due to the levels of youth in their squad. While not the youngest group, they look to be in the middle of a rebuild, hopefully nearing the end of it. But again for this season, I wouldn’t see them as a threat.
New Orleans Secondline
Horn Repair In Progress
Current Record (1-7)
This Time Last Season (1-7)
Strengths: None
Weakness: Offensive Line, Tight End, Safety, Defensive End, Linebacker, Cornerback, Running back
Very much in a rebuild, I don’t think there is much to write on currently as with any rebuild, you can only determine their successes once it's over. For now they’ll need to identify major areas of need to make proper plans for. Particular for me is their Offensive Line will essentially be made of Turnstyles until they get some long-term talent there.
NSFC
Baltimore Hawks
Praise the Golden Hawk
Current Record (6-2)
This Time Last Season 3-5
Strengths: Quarterback, Cornerback
Weakness: Tight End, Offensive Line
At the risk of my job, I didn’t expect to be in this position and Dude_man and ex/co-co GMs who aren’t me should be getting all the credit right now and if there is success in the future. The Hawks are the Best Overall Offense and Defense in Points, and Top 2 in other aspects. Unfortunately the Rushing Offense and Defense leaves something to be desired. I don’t want to type too much because it feels weird talking about my own team, but I just have to say that Charles Chapman is a fraud.
Sarasota Sailfish
Precision Strikers of the Sea
Current Record (5-3)
This Time Last Season (5-3)
Strengths: Tight End, Cornerback
Weakness: Defensive Tackle, Defensive End, Offensive Line
The Passing Experts of this Conference, these fish destroy defenses with their insane passing game, which single-handedly boosts their offense to Top in Yardage in the league. At the same time, their fishy fins aren’t too great at the run game. They’re defense is very impressive at all things aside from preventing points. I would expect that to improve and meet their other defensive stats later this season. Please never use that Color Rush logo again, it gives me nightmares and I can’t go down to my basement at night anymore.
Cape Town Crash
Beware their Stampede
Current Record (4-4)
This Time Last Season (6-2)
Strengths: Safety, Quarterback, Running Back ,Tight End
Weakness: Cornerback
The Cape Town Crash, live up to their logo with a hefty rushing but lacking passing offense. I love how fitting this team fits their mascot that I actually have some trouble finishing their summary. Like the Rhino, they can take a brutal hit but can’t really jump well. This is a simile(?) for their defense, strong against the run but weak against the pass. While not too hot this season, our conference is fluid enough that it could still change and the Crash could once again prove that their Stampede is the dominant force of the league.
Yellowknife Wraiths
Haunted by Time
Current Record (4-4)
This Time Last Season (6-2)
Strengths: Quarterback, Running back, Offensive Line
Weakness: Cornerback, Linebacker
This team is in a strange spot. The Wraiths, having major key players of their team approaching the dreaded theft that is regression, may have a fast approaching time limit for an Ultimus run and likely have a plan already for the next several seasons. For now they are a strong run-first team that could use some improvement in their Defense group to try and make a playoff run before it's too late.
Berlin Fire Salamanders
Natural Defense Mechanism
Current Record (4-4)
This Time Last Season (1-7)
Strengths: Defensive Tackle, Quarterback, Safety, Linebacker, Cornerback,
Weakness: Offensive Line, Tight End,
Fire Salamanders are in the opposite situation Offense/Defense wise from the Wraiths, with a good defensive game, but a lacking offensive one. They are utilizing an older but more experienced Defense group to support a younger Offensive group. This shows in an obvious way in Points Scored and Points Allowed with a bottom level Points Scored, but a better points Allowed, ranking 2nd in the conference. Generally their rankings within the different criteria fit their current record, recording as 3-5 in the conference, and their Offense will only get better from here on. Their Defense will retain its current level for a couple more seasons, and if they plan for a run for the Ultimus within that time frame, they may have a decent shot at it.
Colorado Yeti
Impending Cryptid Invasion
Current Record (3-5)
This Time Last Season 3-5
Strengths: None
Weakness: Cornerback, Running back, Quarterback
The Yeti run an interesting scheme, ranking 3rd overall in Pass Yards per game yet having more Tight Ends on the roster than Wide Receivers, along with just recently trading their high receiving player so far this season. I wouldn’t expect the Yeti to push for much success this season, as they are developing an army of players to unleash on the league in the coming season.
Chicago Butchers
Apprentice Butchers
Current Record (2-6)
This Time Last Season (5-3)
Strengths: Defensive Tackle, Quarterback
Weakness: Defensive End, Cornerback, Safety, Linebacker
The Butchers are in the process of gathering their strength, right now it seems like they are even missing some pieces while they let their roster gather strength for future seasons. Even though they have a dismal record at this moment, their offense is doing well at this moment, and just needs the defense to bulk up over the next couple seasons to match.
