Hello my ISFL minions!
It’s your friendly neighborhood media czar with a super cool announcement:
We’re increasing media pay!
I know people have politely asked (we’ll go with that) about how we can get media pay up and all that jazz. Granted, it was more because graphics were essentially printing money and it made everything look bad in comparison, but hey, it happens. After bouncing back with many, many conversations with HO (okay, just Darkness really), we came up with a plan to increase things a little bit.
So we’re doing it.
Media is getting a bump to $2000 per word. We also bumped up the bonuses slightly to reflect this change.
It isn’t a massive increase, I know, but hey, it’s something.
My concerns were always that if we pay out too much for an article, we’re going to get less media overall since people won’t “need” money as much. The more media, the better. And in the case of written media, it wasn’t really broken, so it never needed fixing. I mean, it’s done pretty well for the last 5+ years or so that I’ve done this job. It might be more. God, I’m old. Don’t get old kids. Stay young forever.
But anyway, I think we found a nice compromise with a lot of people’s concerns here. More pay (yay!) but not enough that it’ll slow the incoming media (yay!). Basically, we should still get the same amount of media, but you’ll get more money for it. Pretty rad. Plus, if we increased it too much, we might have had to get rid of 2x media altogether. Or go back to the dark times when the ancient HO only let me give you guys 1.5x media weeks. Ew. I didn’t want that, ever. Either way, this is the best of all the worlds. I hope you like it.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!
For those who do podcasts, I have to say, the quality has been pretty great with them. For the longest time, podcasts have had a cap of 1 per week. This was for a good reason: it takes an hour or more to listen to and grade one podcast, it takes 3-5 minutes for an article. Not wanting an insane amount of podcasts coming in, and overwhelming my graders (who, especially back then, weren’t nearly as good as the ones we have now. Follow me for more ISFL Media history lessons) and not making it worth the media pay (which was like $3M or something back then. Maybe it was $4M? Not important, sorry.) which really would’ve made things not fun.
But with everything in a good place, we can proceed to expand on this. As a result, the “podcast cap” is getting upped to TWO a week! Wooo!
This will help some of our awesome podcasters help out other people and get them more involved, or they can jump on other people’s podcasts every now and then, and quite frankly just give us more quality content. My same concerns of a flood of podcasts still exist, so that’s why it's just 2 per week now, but that’s still an extra hour (and $4 million) a week for people to do some great things for the website.
I’m personally the usual “grumpy old man that hates change when it isn’t needed”, but even though that’s just a tongue in cheek bit, I’m truly excited for these changes and for what you guys will do with these new “restrictions”.
I hired some new graders, and hopefully we should be able to weather the storm pretty well, but please have some patience if it takes slightly longer at first to get everything graded in a timely manner. And no, if you just had something recently graded, we aren’t going back to a certain point in time and bumping everything up. I’m sorry, but we had to pick a cut off time, and its *right now*. I appreciate your understanding in that matter.
That should cover it. I’d like to thank everyone for not fully rioting as we made some changes, and a special shoutout to Head Office for green lighting all of this so we can get the people some more sweet, sweet fake money.
Next step, universal sim league currency!
(if only).
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
Go out there, and get creating! What are you waiting for?
Your bud,
JK.
