I sat down with DSFL star Shawn Ariel (@Luminous) about his DSFL season and about the upcoming draft, along with the transition to the NSFL.
Daybe: How did you feel about the way you performed this season in the DSFL?
Luminous (Shawn Ariel): I feel pretty good about myself and the way I performed. I really can't give enough credit to my teammates who were there to set me up for the plays, from Leon to Adams they are the real reason that I am where I am today.
Daybe: In the final game of the season, you rushed for 103 yards, to go along with 3 touchdowns. Take me back to what was going through your head that game.
Luminous (Shawn Ariel): In all honesty, I just wanted to make a splash for the end of the season and really cement my DSFL legacy, and in the end everything went as planned but like I said earlier I really can't give enough credit to my teammates and even the coach who knew I had the hot hand that game.
Daybe: How do you feel about the way your team as a whole performed this year?
Luminous (Shawn Ariel): I'm very happy with the way things turned out and how our team did as a whole but I believe that we still could have done better.
Daybe: How confident do you feel going into the playoffs? Your team went 0-7 on the road, and will be playing in Chicago, the league's best team record wise.
Luminous (Shawn Ariel): I believe that the fans will really give us that energy we need on the road and it really is a confidence booster, if the fans keep it up and we can show up then I think anything is possible.
Daybe: Do you think you should win DSFL MVP? If so, why?
Luminous (Shawn Ariel): Man, I'm not sure, but to be a candidate, I know I have what it takes. I can't stress how much I owe to my team and staff but this is a more player oriented award which I think is completely possible for me to win, like you said earlier I had 3 touchdowns in one game and nearly lead the league in them, some saying I'm the best at my position by far which I stand up to.
Daybe: What has been the most fun part of playing in the DSFL this season?
Luminous (Shawn Ariel): Most fun, jeez.
*Laughing*
I would say the entire season was fun but this interview was probably the pinnacle of my career so far. You know, not that often does a player that hasn't even been drafted yet get this much attention.
Daybe: Where do you think you will be drafted? Are there any teams in particular you want to go to?
Luminous (Shawn Ariel): I mean, judging by the way other teams have approached me I would say I deserve to be a top 3 even first overall pick, but if you haven't noticed I have shown some interest in the Yeti who have also shown some interest in me.
Daybe: What are your goals for your player?
Luminous (Shawn Ariel): I don't have any big goals set in stone yet and to be completely honest I just want to be known and feared throughout the league.
Daybe: Name 1 player in the NSFL you would like to play alongside of.
Luminous (Shawn Ariel): Nicholas Pierno.
Daybe: And why?
Luminous (Shawn Ariel): He is just a great guy to be around and his presence on the field really gives you a boost, plus he's the GOAT.
Daybe: Is there any NSFL player you want to or are modeling your playing style after?
Luminous (Shawn Ariel): Not really.
Daybe: What have you learned from this season?
Luminous (Shawn Ariel): I learned several things, but the biggest thing I have learned has got to be that I can trust my team, ever since I was in what, elementary school playing football at recess time I would never trust my teammates because I was always the best on the field.
Daybe: Wow, interesting. Sounds good! Hope to see you in the draft.
