Welcome back for round 2 of our S44 rookie controlled Mock draft! If you missed round one, click here to read through that first: https://forums.sim-football.com/showthre...#pid730540
In this edition, we'll be tackling the second round of the upcoming draft, providing picks and explanations for each of the selections. As a refresher, we got a group of fresh faced S44 rookies, and 110Sports and Zayn, to come together and mock out the first 3 rounds of the upcoming S44 ISFL draft. Below is the Second round of mock, with the 3rd round coming a little bit later. Let's go over our rules for this draft, and who was controlling each team.
For starters, we randomized who would be acting as GM for each team, with each player working for 2 teams, please see below:
DL14 @DL14 - BAL, AZ
Zayn @zaynzk - BER, AUS
Tmoney - CTC, CHI
Thor Dangerson @homercrates - HON, OCO
Bamford @Bamford13 - COL, NYS
Orange Julius @OrangeJulius - SAR, NOLA
110Radio @110radio - YKN, SJS
Additionally, before we started, one of users (RIP) reached out to all GMs to try and get a feel for what needs their teams were looking to fill heading into the draft season, so our decisions were based on what GMs told us they would be looking for this offseason.
On top of that, we did not allow draft day trades of picks, and we did not entertain the idea of position switches for drafted players. These are both hard practices to mock, and therefore, it was simpler to keep the picks locked into their spots, and the players their positions. However, some notes that our mockers left discuss when they think a trade could happen based on valuations of the board and needs of the team they are drafting for.
Lastly, we started this draft the day before the trade deadline, and therefore, we came to use the following draft order for the second round:
1. NOLA
2. CHI
3. SJS
4. OCO
5. HON
6. YKW
7. BER
8. OCO via SAR
9. COL
10. AZ
11. AUS
12. COL via CTC
13. NYS
14. BAL
Without further ado, let's get to drafting!
Pick #2.1: NOLA , represented by @OrangeJulius
D Lopez De Castilla, WR, NOR @DL14
DL14 aka Diego Lopez Castilla is our first pick of the second round, and in my view, rightfully so. Diego is one of the top earners in the class and while there may be character concerns, I don’t see them. Feisty and good addition to any locker room, DL can use his speed to take the top of defenses and his trash talk to play the mental game.
Pick #2.2: CHI , represented by @Tmoney6996
Maple Dogwood, RB, DAL @dogwoodmaple
Taking a RB this high may not seem like the best move. But with Chicago trading away Dux to try and build for the future, they will need to replace that offensive talent in some manner. Dogwood immediately helps fill the hole at RB left by Dux, and gives them another solidly active user who is looking to max earn at the position. There are a few different avenues that they could go with this pick, BUT with the current draft the way it is, they need to go offense with this pick, and Dogwood is the first step to righting the ship in the backfield.
Pick #2.3: SJS , represented by @110radio
Zenzeroni Xystarch II, K/P, BBB @lock180
SJS could use this high earning user as a player who is tucked away on the roster for a couple of seasons to replace their almost aging S38 current kicker Booter McGavin. Alternatively its possible that Xystarch makes a swap to another position of need for the Sabercats. That said keeping them as a kicker might not hurt them much either, as the heir apparent for their future placekicking needs
Pick #2.4: OCO , represented by @homercrates
Triceracop. OL, BBB @fireyheart
OCO list OL as a need and I think Triceracop is a low key giant value user. He has many hidden talents such as writing and has experience announcing. The user Fireyheart runs his own radio show where he pumps out the synth wave sounds time to time. He also has a fabulous Kung Fury persona and signautre to spray creativity and 80's feeling neon everywhere. He fills a need and is one user I think will prove to be a huge value later on.
Pick #2.5: HON , represented by @homercrates
Thor Bǫllrsveifla, QB, BBB @Thor
HON has a 7 season veteran at QB and although QB is not a need for HON right now it seemed wrong that Thor slide that far. There are a lot of great users this season but I think HON could definitely take the time to get the QB in sync by the time regression hits their current QB star. I don't understand how Thor was even available now
Pick #2.6: YKN , represented by @110radio
Wayne Miller, CB, MINN @Datboi69
With the 6th pick of the 2nd round (pick 20) YKW selects: Cornerback - Wayne Miller - Minnesota Greay Ducks, user Datboi69 YKW currently rosters 3 Active CBs and no call ups on the bench. Kadarius Claypool II and Orga Panda from S41, and Bageshwari Singh from S34. Singh will begin regression next seasona and YKW has no relief from call ups on deck. Taking a high earning CB would get a good fit for YKW as the rookie secures a roster spot and has time to develop and build that TPE bank
Pick #2.7: BER , represented by @zaynzk
Xavier Moreno, CB, POR @LurchingCard
Berlins CBs are aging quite rapidly so I could see them taking Moreno with this pick to be the long term successor at cornerback. Think this will be an excellent and exciting pick for the fire salamanders
Pick #2.8: OCO , represented by @homercrates
Felix Waterman, S, POR @Will3
OCO has picked up and filled both DT and OL needs here and with the recent run on CB's it was time to fill in a need. I carefully deliberated between users here as you want to make sure you grab something dependable. OCO's CB is fighting regression now and a new replacement is needed. Ronald McDonald and his legendary videos here was the biggest delliberation however, CB was a need and user Will3 will cover it just fine. Its not an easy choice I do want me some of those McVideos though.
Pick #2.9: COL , represented by @Bamford13
Joe Bazooka, RB, LON @Bazooka_Joe
The Colorado Yeti select rb Joe Bazooka. The Yeti recently traded their star rb to the Cape Town Crash leaving them with a big hole at the rb position. Since joining London as a waiver pickup Bazooka has taken the league by storm. He’s the top earning rb and could be exactly what Colorado need to fill the running back position.
Pick #2.10: ARI , represented by @DL14
Joey Battle, LB, DAL @captainsb
Joey Battle is in the very coveted LB position, which AZ has marked as a need going into the draft. User CaptainSB has proven a very active user who is high earning, and him falling so far thanks to being passed on earlier by the Hawks, who preferred a QB thinking that he could fall to them, or at worst take the second best LB. But certainly an exciting player to pick, and this late, it’s probably a steal
Pick #2.11: AUS , represented by @zaynzk
Gajeel Redfox, CB, DAL @AJay887
Geleel Fox The Austin secondary is starting to hit regressions so coming up with a plan at the DB core will be essential for Austin long time and help them stay competitive
Pick #2.12: COL , represented by @Bamford13
Crazy Tomato, DE, KCC @Crazytomato
With their second pick in the second round the Colorado Yeti select DE Crazy Tomato. With DE Nathan Explosion on the brink of retirement and DE Adrian Hutchinson getting up their in age the Yeti could definitely use a young DE. Tomato has been a good earner and the top DE earner. Tomato has been an extremely active user and could be a great addition to the Yeti
Pick #2.13: NYS , represented by @Bamford13
Marty Crane, RB, DAL @Marty the Monster
With their first pick of the draft the New York Silverbacks take running back Marty Crane. With top running back Michaelangelo McTurtle near the end of his career and backup Micheal Touchback entering regression NYS has a big whole at rb. McCrane is the second top earning rb and has been decently active. And I just realized NYS traded for Frank Dux. If I had known when making this pick I would’ve gone for a CB but too late for that. Dux is still on the older side so Crane could slot in in a few seasons. Sorry for messing up and also blame the budget tracker for not showing it
Pick #2.14: BAL, represented by @DL14
. Gougar, LB, NOR @PHB11677
BAL picks Gougar. Eager to get on the LB train here, as Gougar comes as the best available prospect for the position by this stage of the draft. Gougar has slacked on his earning a little bit, but we’re still hopeful he can overcome his early hiccups and come out in top shape. Plus, he’s Gougar, what’s there not to like?
