Had to come eventually, right?
Yes, my friends and sim league family, I will be officially stepping down as one of the GMs of the Bondi Beach Buccaneers.
My time with the Buccs came from the very start; a wide receiver waiver pickup since I hadn’t come to the league two or three days earlier. Bondi Beach took a stab at me; a new user, who loved the sport. While not the first to reach out, @Eric Belmont snatched me away to the pirate ship, and off we went.
Less than two months later, I was a rookie mentor, and helping out in the war room. We were told that we were about to be contracted, and I was preparing to find another team to call home.
Less than two months after that, we had fought against contraction and won an Ultimini. And a short while later, it was announced that I was leaving the rookie mentors (sorry, Russ) and becoming the new GM and working alongside @Thor. The things Thor taught me about GMing were intense, but I was fresh and ready to learn.
Then, @aeonsjenni came along, stepping right into Thor’s shoes once he stepped down. We cultivated a locker room culture that both of us couldn’t be prouder of. The Bondi Beach Buccaneers have always had a bit of a reputation; it didn’t take me long to figure that out in my rookie season.
But reputations be damned. I am a proud Buccaneer; Jenni and I have crafted a locker room that is welcoming, engaging, and competitive, and I want that same pride to be instilled in everyone who’s able to call themselves a Buccaneer.
I know Jenni will take the reins and move forward with Bondi Beach in ways that will make every former GM and teammate proud. It was a huge task to find someone to take on the team alongside her, but there was a particular person we were highly impressed by.
And as such, my replacement will be @honey! Honey is going to be someone I know Jenni will work well with, and they have been an absolute delight in our locker room and throughout the various Discord servers. I expect many a mini from these two GMs, and all the while I’ll gladly stand on the sideline and cheer for them louder than anyone else.
Some other shoutouts before I go:
- @Gumbaman and @Hydrium for being good sports about the NOR/BBB rivalry and just the best to banter with
- @Sebster for being a bright light in our Line as a liaison
- @jeffie43 and @scorycory for both being such a delight in the locker room and war room, helping keep us sane
Thank you, DSFL and ISFL. With that, I bid the GMing life adieu... for now.
Goodbye (mwah) and good night! Bang!
