Upon reading @baz1757's eloquent and masterful media piece on DBs (specifically cornerbacks), I was inspired to write my own, in-depth article to compare safeties to cornerbacks.
Anyways, I am here to talk about what it means to be a safety to me. The safety position is one of the most crucial parts of a team that allows both the offense and the defense to succeed by forcing turnovers or incompletions. Safeties often aren't recognized for how good they are especially on struggling teams. They do their best to keep their team in the game but when you see that there are no stats on the board for them you begin to question if they are actually good. It is a selfless position where you may not see a ton of stats which can honestly be kind of sad but you have to keep pushing forward especially as a safety being a core part of many teams. I am having a great time as a safety especially Free Safety as they have the best position chat lets be real.
