So here we are just over half way done with the season so it seems like the perfect time to start a power rankings. Now of course these are gonna be very calculated and not at all biased. This first installment will cover everything so far in the season then hopefully after will just be the game or games after this. So my criteria is what I have seen. I have watched most of the games this season, win loss, and just overall stats. So we will start at the bottom with a team that might surprise you.
14. New Orleans Second Line 2-7
Now I dont wanna kick a dude when they are down so I will start with the good. The Second Line already has more wins than last season. They also are having a decent rookie year from new QB Speedings and a breakout year from running back Kyle Crane. But on to the bad they are last in both points scored and points against. They do have two wins but they are against some of the lower tier teams and their losses to the good teams have been very bad.
13. San Jose SaberCats 2-7
I feel like the Cats are in a weird spot this season. They had 6 wins last season but I don't think they will get there this year. Their 2 wins coming versus the Otters who are not great this season and Nola who are Nola. San Jose is also 13th in both points scored and given up so not looking great for them. Their young players have been playing pretty well but their schedule is not the easiest the rest of the way, still having to play some of the best teams in the league. So they might not have too many wins left in the season.
12. Chicago Butchers 2-7
The Butchers are another team in the midst of a rebuild and are struggling to find wins. Their 2 wins have come against the Second Line who we know isn’t very good and a 5-4 Yellowknife team that is kinda middle of the road. They have not looked as bad as other teams, their offense isn’t last and their defense is actually just out of the top half of the league. They have just not really got the points when they get their stops.
11. Colorado Yeti 3-6
Colorado what happened in the playoffs last year and now struggling to get wins. Now I do understand they took a big hit in their running game but even their passing offense has taken a step back with Wolfie already throwing more picks this season then he did all last season. Now most of their losses have been to the better teams in the league but they do have a bad loss versus Nola. The second half of the season won’t be much easier for the Yeti either as they have all of their second games versus the teams in their division which is still really good.
10. Orange County Otters 3-6
So far OCO has just been a team that is around they have lost to some of the better teams and San Jose but they did beat the Outlaws in AZ so that is something. I feel like along with COL OCO is getting ready to get out of the lower tier of teams but have really struggled to win games. They are 8th and 10th in points score and points given up so lots of room for improvement. The rest of the way for OCO should be interesting. They have 3 winnable games left versus CHI, SJS, and NOLA but they also gave 3 games versus CTC, NYS, and AZ so will be interesting to see where the Otters actually end up.
9. Sarasota Sailfish 4-5
Now the Sailfish might be the most up and down team in the league. They lose a few, they win a few and repeat. They are in the top half in offense but in the bottom half on defense 6 and 11 respectively. Their games have been close though with 4 of their 5 losses being a touchdown or less and their worst loss being only 9 points. Now are the playoffs in their future this season I don't think so but they can easily finish with a winning record.
8. Berlin Fire Salamanders 4-5
Finishing off the bottom half we have Berlin who are very middle of the road. They have not been great on offense ranking 10 in points scored but being very tight on defense allowing the 4th least points. They only have one bad loss to the Yeti to open the season, the other 4 losses are to the 3 best teams in the league 2 already coming from the Crash. The Sallies have a decent last half of the season and will probably be competing for a playoff spot.
7. Yellowknife Wraiths 5-4
Yellowknife so far has been a weird team. They have not been playing great 9th in both points scored and given up but they have found ways to win more games then they have lost. The Wraiths have not looked great with only one of the wins being by more than 5 points and all of their losses being by 2 scores. YKW could make a push at the end of the season but will have to really play better the rest of the way.
6. Austin Copperheads 5-4
The Copperheads are the team that is just out of the good teams, They do have a winning record but they only have 1 good win beating HON then losing to the teams with a better record and Berlin. Austin has been great on offense putting up the second most points so far this season but has been towards the middle on defense. They could make a run but the end of their schedule is three very tough games with NYS, AZ, and HON so should at least be exciting at the end.
5. New York Silverbacks 6-3
The defending ASFC champions have been kinda a surprise for me. I thought they would be the best team in their conference but they are currently third. New York so far this season has not been bad at anything but also not great at anything. They have racked up the yards but not really translated that into points only being the 5th best offense in points while having the 2nd most yards. The Silverbacks are in a great spot though they just need to get in the endzone more and step it up versus the best teams in the league which they are 1-3 against.
4. Baltimore Hawks 6-3
The Hawks coming off their Ultimuis win have been very good with no hangover in sight. They have been doing a good job scoring points 3rd in the league and have been ok on defense in 7th in points allowed but that has not hurt them too bad. Their offense being led by their do it all running back Kumquat Archipelgo who already has over 1200 all purpose yards and 8 touchdowns. The Hawks are in a great spot with the only weird spot being 2 losses to the Sailfish. The next 2 games are by far the hardest on their schedule with trips to Cape Town and Honolulu but after that only 1 team with a winning record so watch for Baltimore to finish the season STRONG.
3. Arizona Outlaws 6-3
The Outlaws as always have been good. Scoring points when they need and keeping the opponents off the board. They have not had the best offense but defense is one of the best in the league to make up for it. Arizona has had two weird losses this season with games on paper they should have probably won but they have also beat some of the best teams in the league so far. Their schedule is pretty good the rest of the way, so as always watch for AZ in the playoffs.
2. Honolulu Hahalua 7-2
The Hahalua have really taken a long step forward this year after making the playoffs at 8-8 last season, they already have 7 wins this year. The defense being the real story ranking 1st in most categories, points per game, yards per game, and passing yards per game. Winning Comes pretty easy when the opposing teams have failed to score more than 19 points in all but one of their games and even when they allowed 28 they still won that game. Honolulu is pretty scary and honestly kinda a 1b.
1. Cape Town Crash
Of course we end where I play in Cape Town. After a disappointing playoff loss last season the Crash have come out firing scoring over 60 total points more than anyone else so far this season and averaging 4 more points per game then anyone else. The offense led by Creg Jarrith IV who leads the league in passing TDs and the best running back duo in the league in JHM and Ayame who have scored a combined 16 touchdowns and 2000 all purpose yards combined. The defense has not been bad either with the league's 3rd best points against. The rest of the way isn't too hard either, facing only 2 teams with winning records and both at home. So of course watch out for the Crash to be there in the playoffs.
14. New Orleans Second Line 2-7
Now I dont wanna kick a dude when they are down so I will start with the good. The Second Line already has more wins than last season.
