After the snubbing at the DSFL with the awards the previous year, Norman Smiley knew he had to preform for his league debut in the ISFL. And in this humble and certainly unbiased members opinion there is one rookie who deserves this award and it is Norman Smiley. Norman has been showing out on the field in his first year. And shouldwld be awarded with the Defensive rookie of the year.
Norman comparison for the Butchers, yes, they did finish a 3 and 13 but the fall does not sit on the teams defense. For the defense had to be on the field A LOT this year. And through it all Norman shined through in his first season with the team showing up to do work on the field. Being close to leading the team in multiple categories in just their first season with the team. Doing anything and everything for the team. This included playing out of position away from his normal linebacker position. Which is what the team and Norman needed to show off his skills.
Finishing with 88 tackles which was 3rd on the entire team, 1st with Rookies. Norman showed that he can bring down the ball carriers as well as chase them down to save touchdowns for the team. 7 Sacks on the year to Finish 4th on his team, 2nd with rookies. Showed that with his speed and effort he could get to the quarterback and help the team with the sack prowess. Norman's best feature is his speed and agility causing him to be all over the field in on almost all of the tackles he was near.
Now, some naysayers may say such low tackles for loss and such low INT. The response for that would be Norman had to play two positions this year Nickelback and Linebacker so unfortunately this did limit his time in the backfield. The people he was forced to cover didn't really get the ball thrown to him. This led to his pass deflections being high with 10, 4th among rookies and on his team. As well one of the few rookies to get a defensive touchdown this year and one of two on his team.
Norman knows that history repeats itself so again he has to place his faith in the voter and voting committee to give him this award which he would accept gracefully. Norman is very humble in his achievements when it comes to wrestling and especially now for football since it is his life now. And he is devoting everything to it and would make sure that he is the best defensive player in the league in a couple of years and possibly the best player in the entire league.
Too all the other rookies Norman would say that their seasons where very good and they are all great players and if you do end up winning congratulations
But to the voters please do the right thing a don't snub him again. Because it will be the first award of many for THE BIG WIGGLE.
