ISFL Macguffin
“In fiction, a MacGuffin is an object, device, or event that is necessary to the plot and the motivation of the characters, but insignificant, unimportant, or irrelevant in itself. The term was originated by Angus MacPhail for film, adopted by Alfred Hitchcock, and later extended to a similar device in other fiction.”
College football MacGuffin = a fictional award invented in 1869. when the first ever college football game was played. between Rutgers and Princeton. The winner of that game gets the Mcguffin, and then the subsequent winner of every game after that.
So that leads us here to the ISFL Macguffin. 45 seasons and over 625 games the belt has been passed between the wonders of the ISFL and our teams. It all starts with the first official ISFL game, season 1, week 1, the San Jose Sabercats travel to the Yellowknife Wraiths . Little did they know they were the first domino in a long line of Macguffin history. With great power comes great responsibility. With a final score of 27-14 the Yellow Wraiths are the first holders of the Macguffin belt. After 44 (almost 45) seasons, where is the belt now and who has a chance to battle for this new title in tonight's stream? Stay tuned until the end to find out!
I’ll run through how the first season went overall and then I’ll fast forward to our current S45 season and how the belt has traveled so far. Some big differences are the scheduling we have compared to college football. Definitely in these earlier years we see a lot of back and forth with there only being 6 teams in the beginning. In the later seasons you do start to see things change up more when the expansion teams (Sarasota, Honolulu, New York, Berlin) join the league and create some more diversity with the schedules. This also changed up the majority of the time the Ultimus champion also ending up with the Macguffin to end the season.

This now leads us to the Macguffin’s first playoff experience but definitely not it’s last. The Yeti beat the Yellowknife Wraiths in the Conference Championship but lost the belt and Ultimus to the Arizona Outlaws. Their first time with the Macguffin comes along with the inaugural Ultimus championship!

From season 15 on we don't have to many things to dive into other than the additions of new teams. This helps spread out some of the season where it's just bouncing back and forth between two teams. Also gives more of a chance for the Macguffin to miss the playoffs. Once the Macguffin is in the playoffs it ends that season with the champion.

44 seasons in and @negs and @lordcoolcats team is in last. I love it. But where is the Macguffin now? Season 44 the Macguffin did make the playoffs by NYS being SJS. So the Honolulu Hahalua ended the season 44 campaign with the belt.

Week 15- tonight's matchup of traveling to has more on the line than they knew! Good luck to both of you who can be the first to celebrate knowing you will be holding the Macguffin after a victory tonight.
Last stat I looked into for this is the amount of times a team ended the season with the macguffin. With the ultimate bragging rights during the offseason I feel like this should be a goal for every team. See below for those stats, but please remember that some teams have had a lot more chances to end the season with it than others just based on when they were created.

Best of luck as you continue to compete for the Macguffin! I'll try and keep track of it week to week and post where the belt is from time to time! To whoever is grading you are free to pay me extra for the research
