Welcome back everyone, and welcome to the third ever All-Rookie ISFL team! As with previous seasons teams, we're aiming to highlight the upcoming stars in the league, as viewed by their peers. Ultimately, showing that the league is in good hands moving forward!
A special shout-out to the SFWG, @Pat, and their team again this season for providing the same statistical sheets that are utilized in the All-Pro voting, so that we can remain similar enough to be under their umbrella.
To recap the process, we aimed to follow a similar, if not identical structure to that of the All-Pro team. But with a limited number of rookies, we’ve opted to vote for a singular team. Additionally, due to there being some positions at the ISFL level with no rookies this season, we opted to omit those positions from voting. We do expect the overall roster construction for the All-Rookie team to change slightly year over year, as the rookie designation can be quite volatile season over season.
For S46, we voted on the following positions:
QB
RB
FB
WR #1
FLEX
OT
IOL #1
IOL #2
DT #1
DT #2
LB #1
LB #2
CB/S/NB #1
CB/S/NB #2
CB/S/NB #3
K/P
Overall, the team structure for this season is roughly the same as last season, with a total of 16 players (16 in S45 and 14 in S45), and we've changed positions for voting. This season specifically, we opted to only vote for 1 WR, and swapped the TE position to that of a FLEX as there were no rookies who played TE a majority of the time that were true TEs (more can be seen in our discussion below). Additionally, we removed 1 Secondary position from this year, and added a 3rd OL spot, specifically on the Interior.
We added 3 new members this year, bringing our voting total to 10! Eligible players were voted on by our committee, and each eligible player was assigned their position for voting based on where they were utilized, a majority of the time, by their teams throughout the season.
Let’s take a look at the S46 All-Rookie team!
Numerical ranks (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc) are stated for that position group, among eligible rookies (unless otherwise stated).
Quarterback
1st Team: Thor Bollrsveifla (unanimous) - @Thor
Key Stats: 3299 passing yards (1st), 27 total TDs (1st), 577 rushing yards (1st), 5.29 ypc (1st)
While there wasn't a ton of competition this season at the QB position between rookies (McRobinson was included for voting even though they play roughly a quarter of the season), Thor managed to pace themselves far ahead of most of the other QBs in the league! The committee clearly say the dynamic ability that Thor's legs bring to the table and rewarded them with a unanimous selection to kick off this years All-Rookie team.
Running Back
1st Team: Kit Fisto (unanimous) - @Pvtpenne
Key Stats: 164 attempts (1st), 656 yards (1st). 7 TDs (1st), 69.74 catch% (1st)
Another position that did not see a ton of action for the rookies this year was RB. However, Kit Fisto and their fervent fandom definitely had a rookie season to remember. Serving as one half of the RB tandem in SJS with Maple Dogwood last season, Fisto took the ISFL and fantasy worlds by storm early on in the season, and then leveled off through the remainder to have a very solid rookie campaign. With Fisto continuing to earn, and SJS always looking for more playmakers, I think I can confidently speak for the AR committee when stating that we expect Fisto to be a regular star in the awards shows moving forward.
Fullback
1st Team: Dan Sevin (unanimous) - @Buttersqauch101
Key Stats: 46 attempts (1st), 187 rushing yards (1st), 20 pancakes (1st)
For the second year in a row, we have a rookie FB! Although this year, it's filled based on playing time rather than stated position. Sevin played FB for New Orleans for more than 50% of their time, and therefore are classified as a FB for voting purposes. Even if they are the only candidate, they still put up good numbers for a position that is starting to get more and more love throughout the league. The committee is excited to continue to highlight players in these valuable, but often overlooked positions.
Wide Receiver
1st Team: Silence Suzuka (unanimous) - @xenosthelegend
Key Stats: 49 receptions (2nd), 734 yards (2nd), 60.49 catch% (1st), 6 TDs (1st)
After being YKWs first overall pick a season ago, we find Suzuka back in the awards discussion as a unanimous pick for WR on the all-rookie. Despite only playing a total of 506 plays, Suzuka made an impact when on the field, posting a 14.98 reception average, that dwarfed even some of the current stars of the league. Additionally, Suzuka and the Wraiths made their way to the Ultimus in their first season together, and I think the committee saw a lot of value in that. The sky is the limit for Suzuka and Wraiths, and I personally would expect Suzuka to continue to be an impact player in the WR core for YKW.
Flex
1st Team: Scorch Von Turbo - @lordcoolcats
Key Stats: 28 pancakes (1st), 7 total TDs (1st), 777 all-purpose yards (1st)
To preface the announcement of the FLEX winner, the committee wanted to discuss the change for this years teams: in prior years, teams would typically utilize other skill positions in the TE role, but their would typically be 1-2 players that were true TEs. It allowed for relatively easy comparisons when ascertaining value to a team and how stats should be viewed. However, our 2 candidates for this role are listed as RB and a WR, but both played over 50% of their time at TE. Therefore, it made more sense for us to view them as a FLEX position rather than stating that they were playing true TES.
Our first ever FLEX player, as voted on by the committee is Scorch Von Turbo, the Swiss army knife out of CTC. SVT played a majority of their time at TE in a very run heavy offense, but occasionally saw work as the RB, and FB for the Crash and made the most of their opportunities when on the field.
Others Receiving Votes: Diego López de Castilla (2)
Offensive Tackle
1st team: Klaus von Reinherz - @J0EB
Key Stats: 121 pancakes (1st), 9.88 pancake% (1st) 3 penalties (1st)
Even if there was more than 1 Offensive Tackles up for All-Rookie voting, I think it's safe to say that von Reinherz would have still received the committee's nod for the award. Putting up a whopping 121 pancakes as a rookie, and having the 3rd best overall pancake percentage (trailing only Walrus Jones and Triceracop), Klaus has become invaluable to COLs offense. The committee was thrilled to vote on and award this position to Klaus.
Others Receiving Votes: Finn-Jeremy Har-Dur (5)
Interior Offensive Lineman #1
1st team: Fin-Jeremy Hard-Dur - @Philliesphan96
Key Stats: 71 pancakes (1st), 0 sacks allowed (1st)
You may be wondering how Hard-Dur ended up with votes for Offensive Tackle, yet is the committee's first choice as an Offensive Guard. During the course of voting, based on the information available, these were voted on as if Hard-Dur was an offensive tackle, when in fact, they played C for the vaunted OCO offense. After making this determination, the committee opted to have two IOL, with Har-Dur being the first selection.
Aside from this, Har-dur had a monster season as a C, putting up 71 pancakes and not allowing a single sack of Bannings. Their play was a more than worthy of a spot on the all-rookie team.
Interior Offensive Lineman #2
1st Team: Wario Saturday - @rickymartin_irl
Key Stats: 48 pancakes (3rd), 2 sacks allowed (2nd)
At the IOL #2 spot, we find Wario Saturday, who may be one of the only bright spots in a though Hahalua season. Saturday posted 48 pancakes with a pancake rate of 3.96%. The highlight though is Saturday only allowed Montagne and McRobinson to be sacked a combined 2 times.
Others Receiving Votes: Billy Ennair (2), Octavio Volarus (1)
Defensive Tackle #1
1st Team: Doctor Who - @thewhovian
Key Stats: 44 tackles (1st), 7 TFLs (1st), 1 FF (2nd), 2 sacks (2nd)
Another 1OA pick finds themselves on the all-rookie team a few seasons after their draft! Who managed to carve out a role for themselves on a very busy Chicago Front 7, and led all rookie Defensive Lineman in tackles and TFLs, showing a nose for the ball early on in their career. Additionally their ability to not be penalized seemed to be one of the deciding factors for the committee.
Defensive Tackle #2
1st Team: D'Jasper Probincrux IV - @jreed12
Key Stats: 20 tackles (2nd), 2 TFLs (2nd), 4 sacks (1st), 2 FF (1st)
At the other DT position, the committee awarded the spot to D'Jasper Probincrux IV out of BER for their ability to create pressure on the QB. DT cause be an absolute menace for opposing run games and QBs, and Probincrux showed that they have the technical skills needed to be that player for BER moving forward. Conversely to Doctor Who, I think the committee took note of just how often Probincrux was penalized, which can be a huge factor on the defensive side of the ball, which caused the vote to be more split. That being said, the votes for both DT #1 and #2 were a split between the top two players at their positions this season.
Others receiving votes: Dormo Bloodhand (3)
Linebacker #1
1st Team: Joe Bazooka - @Bazooka_Joe
Key Stats: 101 tackles (first), 3 TFLs (1st), 11 PDs (1st), 2 INT (1st)
Bazooka put on quite a show this past season in Baltimore. Led all rookies in several categories, including the sexy LB stats of tackles and TFLs. Bazooka also proved to be a force in the passing game, as they defended a whopping 11 passes and picked off 2 of them. Bazooka finds themselves in a great spot to continue to be the anchor of the Hawks defense for seasons to come.
Linebacker #2
1st team: Iman Outlaw - @allbetsonjames
Key Stats: 83 tackles (2nd), 2 TFLs (T-2nd), 64.96 catch% (1st)
Outlaw helped band-aide the aging LB core last season and proved to be a very solid cover option for them when utilized in that capacity. It also helped, and the committee noted, that they tackled the ballcarrier 83 times and only committed 3 penalties across the course of the entire season. Additionally, they were clearly the favorite of opposing QBs, and teams expected them to be a weak link ,targeting them 137 times, but Outlaw managed to have the lowest catch% when in coverage of all rookie LBs.
Others receiving votes: Joey Battle (2)
CB/S/NB #1
1st Team: Marty Crane - @Marty the Monster
Key Stats: 57 tackles (4th), 2 FF (1st), 3 FR (1st), 7 INT (1st), 12 PD (2nd), 1 DTD (T-1st)
It should be no surprise to anyone to see Marty Crane as one of our All-Rookie team members. Crane also took home All-Pro honors this past season as their ability to be apart of turnover after turnover was something not see in the ISFL for several seasons. Interesting note, this marks the 2nd out of 3 ballots where the TO leader for the secondary has been given the nod for the All-Rookie team, was the TO leader among all rookies, and played S for CHI!
CB/S/NB #2
1st Team: Dawelle Wevis - @AW13
Key Stats: 0 penalties (1st), 58.72 catch% (2nd), 4 INT (2nd), 17 PD (T-1st), 1 DTD (T-1st)
Wevis truly was an island last season, and the committee awarded that with the second spot in the secondary for this years team. Despite playing as the CB #2 behind NOLA, Wevis saw plenty of action, but managed to allow a catch on only ~58% of all targets they saw. Additionally, Wevis forced 45 incompletions this season, which would've put them in 2nd among eligible players.
CB/S/NB #3
1st Team: Gajeel Redfox - @AJay887
Key Stats: 120 targets (1st), 64 tackles (1st), 2 INT (3rd), 17 PD (T-1st)
Redfox found themselves seeing a ton of targets this pass season, but forced an incompletion on 42 of said targets. Additionally, Redfox helped provide some necessary turnovers for the Copperhead defense, forcing 1 fumble and 2 INTs, en route to a deep playoff run for the team. I think one stat that stood out to the committee was the sheer amount of tackles that redfox accumulated at the CB position, with a total of 64, it puts them will into the upper levels for CBs.
Kicker/Punter
1st team: Jack Sloth (unanimous) - @slothfacekilla
Key Stats: 90.63 FG% (1st), 53 FG long (1st), 7.02 PAR (1st out of all eligible kickers)
Our final member of the S47 All-Rookie team is the sure-footed kicker from New Orleans, Jack Sloth! With a whopping 7.02 PAR, which was the highest in the league by nearly 6 points, Sloth was a force to be reckoned with in the kicking game, nearly, at times, being the entirety of NOLAs offense. The committee clearly saw value in that, and awarded them with a unanimous selection.
