Continuing from the previous part of Rookie Rambling, we now move to the offense. What was initially 6 participants has now gone to 5 due to unforeseen circumstances but these 4 have been extremely active in either the media page of the forums or yapping away in the rookie server. Funnily enough, these 5 players come from just 3 teams: KCC, BBB, and POR so props to them.
Like before, the goal of this series is to introduce the league to the newer players using a set of questions I created to get in an idea of their goals and personalities. And again, this series will look at true rookies instead of the stinky recreates that everyone knows already.
Listed below are the 5 most active offensive new creates in the S48 class to be included in this analysis:
@SPatt59 (Shiv) - Jag McQueen (RB) - Kansas City Coyotes (1.08)
@bfry - Stone Wall (OL) - Bondai Beach Buccaneers (5.35)
@omg - Seer lal (WR) - Bondai Beach Buccaneers (1.03)
@Nectorist - Big Tractor (WR) - Kansas City Coyotes (1.04)
@Argonisi - Kurt Wagner (TE) - Portland Pythons (4.25)
Shiv: "I saw someone advertise it my NFL team's subreddit. It seemed like an interesting concept so I joined. Sure enough, it's already been a fun thing and I'm motivated by the people here too."
Bfry: "I have been in a simulation league for a little over four years now. That league is Pro Baseball Experience. I have really enjoyed it and had fun participating in the league. I recently got drafted to a new team and some of the members of the ISFL were in that new team and started to talk it up. On a night that I was particularly bored, I ended up making a player. I was not sure I would pick up the league as quickly as I did, but that is how I found my way into the league and have really enjoyed it so far."
Omg: "Lots of nudging from MMFLEX primarily. I was part of another football sim that ended up closing up shop a few months ago, and I started getting that itch for sim leagues again, so thought it would be a good time to finally dip in here."
Nectorist: "I first saw the invite for it on the Texans subreddit. I hadn't done any sim leagues before, but I'd been involved in similar stuff like this (Instagram madden leagues when I was 13) so I decided to give it a shot! I saw how complex a lot of the mechanics and stuff were, how dynamic things could be, so it appealed to me right off the bat and I decided to give it a shot!"
Argonisi: "My dad let me know that he was recreating in the ISFL, along with his usual greetings. We already had been in the PBE for years together, but unless you go back to 2019, we had not had characters that were in the same draft class, that would be competitive at the same time. So I thought it would be a fun idea if I tried out the ISFL, which would give us a more competitive/cooperative link in this sim league world."
Shiv: "This might not be a great answer but I just like being a fast dude. Plus it looked like a position of somewhat need and I thought alright might as well get some speed stats on the board. I love watching a good running back in football."
Bfry: "I asked around to find out what a good position might be if I was not going to be able to max earn. I was told that Offensive Line was a good spot for me. As I learn more about the league, I think I may now be able to figure out some things to max earn. That said, I played offensive line in high school as well as on the defensive line which was a lot of fun so I can align with that particular position when I think about it and so that should be a fun."
Omg: "I wanted an offensive position that could make an early impact at the pro level. I didn't want to deal with the competition and pressure associated with QBs, and I figured it would be easier to get early playing time at WR than at RB. I wasn't all that interested in going TE or OL either."
Nectorist: "At first I started out with OL because I'm the type of guy who likes to be useful, to do whatever's needed, and with a dearth of OL I figured that'd be a good spot. Plus, there's a lot of competition in the league, so if I wanted to have a chance to go big, putting my time in a position that's really needed like that would be a good investment. I also played LT irl, so I had that natural connection there. However, I recently switched to WR. It was a decision I made with the team at Kansas City, and it was something we'd brought up before I was drafted. I just like having fun, and having a position like WR that can allow me to track stats a bit better and compare myself with other players is a cool element that I'm excited for. At the end of the day, I care more about getting to play and help out a team than I do playing at a specific position."
Argonisi: "I originally was going to make my character an Offensive Lineman, purely because KC15 was set on being a running back, and I thought it would be cute to play a position that synergises so well with that in mind. However, I was consistently warned by people and previously written articles on each position that offensive linemen are not often played in this league because there’s not much overall value that a user can bring for a team if they play in the line. That made me worried that I might not get enough engagement after every sim, if I were to play there, and so I chose tight end, because I wanted to be able to point to things like catches and touchdowns and say “I did that” irrefutably tangibly. I was also warned that tight ends are often asked to switch, and that they don’t bring the most bang for the buck like wide receivers would, but given the choice between two positions where that is the case, I would rather be a tight end. Plus, the tight end also occasionally blocks, which is why I have immediately maxed out my blocking attributes! And, as I said to one scout: “I'm a big fan of solid positions, things that quietly are important to a team's success. That's why I love catchers in baseball, or defense in soccer. There's just something so powerful in steadfastly holding strong!”."
Shiv: "There were more RBs than I anticipated coming into this but for sure the person, in terms of RBs, that I would consider the strongest is Zigzag Zigstep. I'm still learning about everyone so I don't really know if he's a recreate, but he seems like a yapper and a strong player. He was drafted higher than me after all so I think by default he's my biggest competition. I look forward to battling all the RBs."
Bfry: "I have no idea. I will be honest. I have not really looked at what the rest of the class looks like. If I was forced to give an answer to this, I would say anyone that knows what they are doing. They will have a leg up on me. I am along for the ride and I think I’ll be able to sort out how I can make the best and biggest impact for my teams. So I do not think I will end up at the bottom of my class, but earning TPE is not foreign to me but the rest of the league kind of is but this feels like I will still be a good contributor."
Omg: "The only player that can beat me is myself. As long as I'm on the top of my game no one can catch me. Big Tractor, Old Man Walker, Lawrence Crawford, Warren Peace, and Derrick Prince Jr. might think they can compete with me, but they can't."
Nectorist: "In terms of overall rookies, I would say you (@wetwilleh), but you're so far ahead of everyone else that it can't really be called a competition. I think @omg is probably the biggest competition I have just because we were drafted back-to-back and we play at the same position now. I love the idea of building up a friendly rivarly, and hopefully as the season progress I'll get to see who I'm really stacking up against the most."
Argonisi: "My biggest competition is definitely negs on the London Royals team, whose player is GoTo Iamnegs.net. That’s the only other tight end in the class who has earned more than ten TPE at this point, and he’s well-ahead of me. I hope to catch up, but that depends more on him than me. I think I’ve figured out the timing of the PTs, and once I’ve earned some kwan, I’ll be able to get everything that I want out of this league. We’re going to Hollywood, baby."
Shiv: "I'm looking right now to just be competent. I am struggling a bit to get into a rhythm with some of the new tasks and how updating works and all. I'm trying to learn all that. Other than that, 1,000 yard season please."
Bfry: "I really do not. I have not seen a season or what a sim even looks like at this point, so I have a long way to go towards learning what this league is about. If we win a championship in DSFL, I will consider myself to be very lucky. But if I knew what was going on, then I would hope that I land on a team that can compete which I believe I have with Bondi Beach. They have been great so far which has made my life really easy since having joined the league."
Omg: "Win an Ultimini. We've got a nasty 1-2 at both WR and CB here in Bondi Beach, and add studs at LB and K and we can match up with just about anybody!"
Nectorist: "I just don't want to disappoint. I got picked high and there were some decent expectations around me. I want to be able to live up to that, be a great contributor for KC, and show them why I deserved that #4 spot. I also really just want to learn the ropes of how an actual season goes, and maybe get out there a bit more, make some connections, and possibly go for a league job."
Argonisi: "For this season, I don’t have many expectations, really. I’m on the same team as notable tight end evangelizer, Tyler Higbee II. Tyler, I’m sure, has immense expectations for the season. I might have the outside hope to play some reps in the fourth quarters of blowouts. Maybe Tyler has not developed his blocking skills yet, which I couldn’t blame him for, but that make me more handy for when we use schemes focused on the running back."
Shiv: "KC has been super welcoming to me and all the other rookies. The chat is active and I've had some good conversations so far with my teammates. The GMs, Rob and TubbyTim, have been very nice and I had a great conversation with TubbyTim leading up to the draft."
Bfry: "I am really enjoying the locker room and General Managers for Bondi Beach Bucs. They are all very active and I have really appreciated the personal chat line with the GMs so we can talk about stuff around my player. That helps me to sort out the right information from all the jibber jabber that goes on in the main channels. The discord server has been really active which is fun and I expect I will likely be getting more involved in the league."
Omg: "I'm having a good time there, especially watching Triceracop lose constantly in snail racing."
Nectorist: "I'm enjoying it a lot. KC's got a good group of dudes and I was excited to see who we picked up in the draft. The guys here really know their stuff and have been upfront and really great helps, especially with the position switch."
Argonisi: "I love the new locker room in Portland. It’s been a lot of fun to watch how everything proceeds normally. I haven’t contributed too much, but I will be really busy in real life until the summer, and so I’ve been pleasantly surprised and extremely pleased that the vibe is already so good and rewarding. And Jackie Wilson is a big reason why I feel so involved, as she’s been in my DMs, talking to me when she has some free time. We’ve really bonded over a love of music, including the new Hozier EP. During scouting, I referenced a song that was in her bio, and she has been such a joy to talk to that when, out of nowhere Hozier released the new music, I thought of my GM immediately. That’s amazing! The sim leagues should have the main aspect on the relationships made between users, and the game as an inciting reason for why we’re here. I’m happy to see that’s the case already."
Shiv: "All I feel is positivity for the Coyotes. They seem like a very professional and competitive team and I think they have the makings of a contender."
Bfry: "Bondi Beach is a beautiful place that I have never been to in real life. I might have to add it to the vacation spots that I would like to visit before I die. Australia sounds like a really fun place that might be one of the better spots to visit as a native English speaker. Even with that I have some trouble understanding what some Australians are saying from time to time."
Omg: "We're gonna win an Ultimini."
Shiv: "I had no clue what to expect after the lack of game time in the prospect bowl, but the fact that KC traded up to get me at 1.08 makes me happy that they see potential. I know that their expectations are high for this pick though so I need to be active."
Bfry: "I got picked with the 35th pick in the 5th round. That probably had a lot to do with creating late and being a relative unknown. Also, my position probably is not that important to most teams unless they are trying to build a full roster which sounds like that is difficult to impossible to do. So I understand why I got picked in that spot but it could be fun to see if I can move my way back up the draft list for the pro or majors level draft for the ISFL."
Omg: "I think two teams made a poor choice."
Nectorist: "I did expect to go in the first round, just based off of my TPE and some of the mocks going around, but I was really surprised to see it all the way at #4! I know my TPE and media was good, but I wasn't exactly the most active Discord user, and I don't think my interviews were spectacular or anything, but I'm happy that KC saw what they did in me. It's just further motivation to give it my all and show out so I can live up to the expectation that comes with it."
Argonisi: "My pick number is about how I expected the draft to go. I’m a new user that not everybody knows yet, and in a non-vital position, though it is still a skill position, people! But number twenty five, in round four seems about right. But I look forward to proving everybody wrong, and that I should be a first rounder! I got that dog in me, a well-behaved dog, but still one that is ready to tear loose when the ball is in my sights."
Shiv: "Strength is important to break tackles and gain maybe an extra yard or 2 per run. For me, speed is the most important thing right now especially as a speed back, but strength will be very important to improve too to help truck defenders a bit."
Bfry: "For an offensive lineman, strength is important because it is necessary to “buy” the trait of Mauler if I remember correctly. Since pancakes are on of the biggest measurables for Offensive Line, I wanted to prioritize that early on. I have to believe that it will be an important trait for both pass and rush blocking. Also, I feel like strength is something that any generic footballer should be pretty well versed in. Outside of kicker, every position is either primary concerned with hitting someone or being hit by someone. The stronger you are the less likely it is you will get hurt when the hitting happens. That is football and you just need to deal with it."
Omg: "As a WR, there are other attributes such as Speed, Hands, and Endurance that are more impactful for the position. However there is definitely value in having some Strength, as it's useful for breaking tackles and helping block on those outside runs. For just players in general, being able to overpower the opposing player whether that's tackling/breaking tackles or blocking/breaking through blocks just adds so much value to any play."
Nectorist: "I think physicality and strength is a core part of all plays, no matter what position you are (except kicker ig). A OL doesn't need to know how to throw it, but he's sure gotta have the muscle to block. A WR may not use a pass set, but if he can break a few tackles that's all the better for him. A CB won't be using a swim move, but he's gotta know how to get in a guy's frame. With how the sim works (and I'll admit I'm no expert), play strength is an aspect of everyone's game (albeit at different level), so at some point or another, everyone has to put something into strength."
Argonisi: "I think strength is an important attribute to keep up in this league because every player needs strength to throw off a tackler, to shed a block, to kick the ball or throw it. Strength is synonymous with the excellence of the human form, the pureness of athleticism and how it shows itself as either bulk or litheness. And then I think there is a strength that is required from all performers, who have the strength of will to go out onto the stage and do what they are paid to do in direct comparison with everyone else, where inevitably one will shine and will appear poor at their profession. But the strength of mind to perform in the realm of sports is even greater. No one is offended by a bad showing of Hamlet, at least not personally, but with sports, if a player fails, it can let down a fan who has been dedicated to the team for decades, half of, their whole lives. It is much more important, it is highly connected with a person’s identity, sport, and to be tied next to a team that represents a place or people is a privilege that is highly volatile."
Similar to the rookies on the defense of the S48 class, players on the offense have different personalities and traits that make them stand out for their teams. I believe every player I talked to is going to go far in the league if everyone keeps up this level of activity. As always, continue to give the DSFL some love and say hello whenever you see the rookies around the server!

What brought you to the league?
Shiv: "I saw someone advertise it my NFL team's subreddit. It seemed like an interesting concept so I joined. Sure enough, it's already been a fun thing and I'm motivated by the people here too."
Bfry: "I have been in a simulation league for a little over four years now. That league is Pro Baseball Experience. I have really enjoyed it and had fun participating in the league.
What made you choose the position that you decided on?
Shiv: "This might not be a great answer but I just like being a fast dude. Plus it looked like a position of somewhat need and I thought alright might as well get some speed stats on the board. I love watching a good running back in football."

Do you have any expectations for this season?

Bfry: "I really do not. I have not seen a season or what a sim even looks like at this point, so I have a long way to go towards learning what this league is about. Maybe Tyler has not developed his blocking skills yet, which I couldn’t blame him for, but that make me more handy for when we use schemes focused on the running back."
How are you liking your new locker room and GMs?
Shiv: "KC has been super welcoming to me and all the other rookies. The chat is active and I've had some good conversations so far with my teammates. The GMs, Rob and TubbyTim, have been very nice and I had a great conversation with TubbyTim leading up to the draft."
Bfry: "I am really enjoying the locker room and General Managers for Bondi Beach Bucs.
What are your thoughts on the team that you were drafted to?
Shiv: "All I feel is positivity for the Coyotes. They seem like a very professional and competitive team and I think they have the makings of a contender."
Bfry: "Bondi Beach is a beautiful place that I have never been to in real life. I might have to add it to the vacation spots that I would like to visit before I die. Australia sounds like a really fun place that might be one of the better spots to visit as a native English speaker. Even with that I have some trouble understanding what some Australians are saying from time to time."
Omg: "We're gonna win an Ultimini."
Nectorist: "KC definitely struck me when they made it clear before the draft that they had plans to move me to another spot. Most teams did bring up the question of whether I'd be fine with switching positions, but KC really seemed to have a plan behind it and were looking for more than just a personality check. It shows that they clearly had a role in mind for me well in advance, and with that kind of forward-thinking I know that I got brought to a good place."
Argonisi: "I don’t have many thoughts on the Portland Pythons outside of the locker room situation. But that’s because I’m a first time user! I don’t understand the history of this league, nor have I had the time to dive into the history index to see what kind of success we are either hoping to maintain or cultivate. Go snakes is all I can say! I’m happy to be on this team, with all of these users, including KC15, and though I wasn’t expecting it, I am glad that it has worked out as it has."
How do you feel about your draft pick?
Shiv: "I had no clue what to expect after the lack of game time in the prospect bowl, but the fact that KC traded up to get me at 1.08 makes me happy that they see potential. I know that their expectations are high for this pick though so I need to be active."
Bfry: "I got picked with the 35th pick in the 5th round. That probably had a lot to do with creating late and being a relative unknown.
Why do you think strength is an important attribute to keep up in this league?
