I love me a good heat map, and I recently saw a fantastic one that had ISFL Teams and Positions by TPE. I was immediately inspired to make a similar version for the DSFL. Since the DSFL TPE fluctuates much more, week to week (and the TPE gains matter), I plan on updating this weekly to see how the map changes with weekly updates, and how it relates to standings at the end of each week.
A few caveats:
With that out of the way, let's move on to the heat map and summaries!
The “I’ve got a lot to overcome” Teams: KCC, TIJ
Kansas City Coyotes:
Offensive TPE: 603 (ranked 8th in total, 4th in conference)
Defensive TPE: 1339 (ranked 3rd in total, 3rd in conference)
Total TPE: 1942 (ranked 8th total, 4th in conference)
Average TPE: 149 (ranked 5th total, 4th in conference)
#of Capped Players: 2
Kansas City is starting off the season with the lowest TPE of all the teams. In particular their Offensive TPE is really bringing them down. Defensively they are actually 3rd overall. In addition to one capped linebacker, two of their defensive players are nearly capped at 243, and 249, meaning KCC essentially is starting the season with 4 capped players.
Tijuana Luchadores:
Offensive TPE: 1219 (ranked 3rd in total, 1st in conference)
Defensive TPE: 744 (ranked 8th in total, 4th in conference)
Total TPE: 1963 (ranked 7th total, 4th in conference)
Average TPE: 151 (ranked T-3rd total, 1st in conference)
#of Capped Players: 5
Tijuana is just barely beating KCC in total TPE. However, they are practically the reverse of KCC. Their Defensive is severely lowering their total TPE, while their Offense is ranked 3rd in the DSFL. One key difference here though is that Tijuana is first in their conference for Offensive TPE, putting them in a better spot that KCC when it comes to at least conference play.
The “Middle of the Road” Teams: NOR, DAL, BBB, POR
Norfolk Seawolves:
Offensive TPE: 1111 (ranked 6th in total, 3rd in conference)
Defensive TPE: 1005 (ranked 6th in total, 3rd in conference)
Total TPE: 2116 (ranked 6th in total, 3rd in conference)
Average TPE: 151 (ranked 4th in total, 1st in conference)
#of Capped Players: 4
Norfolk is nothing if consistent being ranked 6th overall, and 3rd in their conference across the board, with the one notable exception being Average TPE. There they are ranked 4th, and 1st in their conference. I am interpreting this as the team may not have many players, but the players they do have are at least mid to max earning, and making an impact at their respective positions. They have at least one player above 150+ at most of the main categories of player (QB, RB, WR, LB, CB, and S).
Dallas Birddogs:
Offensive TPE: 1079 (ranked 7th in total, 4th in conference)
Defensive TPE: 1074 (ranked 4th in total, 1st in conference)
Total TPE: 2153 (ranked 5th in total, 2nd in conference)
Average TPE: 126 (ranked 8th in total, 4th in conference)
#of Capped Players: 2
The Ultimini reigning champions are starting off the season a bit of a mixed bag. They have a decent defense, with 2 capped player and 3 more 150+, which made them slightly edge out their conference opponents to come out on top. But their offense is poised to struggle in the beginning. Their QB has the lowest TPE at 94, so it’ll be interesting to see how that affects their play. Additionally, unlike Norfolk, they have the lowest Average TPE across their players. Six of their players have yet to update, and are still at 50 TPE. I think watching those players in particular will be key to seeing if Dallas improves over the season.
Bondi Beach Buccaneers:
Offensive TPE: 1183 (ranked 4th in total, 2nd in conference)
Defensive TPE: 1048 (ranked 5th in total, 2nd in conference)
Total TPE: 2231 (ranked 4th in total, 1st in conference)
Average TPE: 139 (ranked 7th in total, 3rd in conference)
#of Capped Players: 4
In the category of “middle of the road” Bondi is the center lane. They are ranked in the middle of the DSFL teams as a whole, and 2nd-ish in the conference across the categories. Bondi has a fairly balanced team, with capped or nearly capped players on both sides of the field. They also boast the only capped human kicker. (shout out Wynn!). Similar to Dallas, they have the second lowest Average TPE. Bondi’s biggest hurdle to overcome will be making sure those players stay active and continue updating, across multiple positions.
Portland Pythons:
Offensive TPE: 1301 (ranked 2nd in total, 2nd in conference)
Defensive TPE: 969 (ranked 7th in total, 4th in conference)
Total TPE: 2270 (ranked 3rd in total, 3rd in conference)
Average TPE: 151 (ranked T-3rd total, 3rd in conference)
#of Capped Players: 4
Portland is the best of the middling teams, but another lopsided one. They have one of the best offensive TPE teams, second only to Minnesota. But they also have one of the worst ranked defenses second only to Tijuana. Will their high-powered offense make up for their defense? Unfortunately, Portland finds themselves in a pretty stacked division this year. However they have a lot of potential for growth, as their Average TPE alludes to. It looks like several of their rookies have already updated, with only one person on the team currently at 50 TPE.
The “Better than Most” Team: LON
London Royals:
Offensive TPE: 1182 (ranked 5th in total, 3rd in conference)
Defensive TPE: 1546 (ranked 2nd in total, 2nd in conference)
Total TPE: 2728 (ranked 2nd in total, 2nd in conference)
Average TPE: 170 (ranked 2nd total, 2nd in conference)
#of Capped Players: 4
The Royals are starting off the season from a pretty strong point. They have several capped players on offense with the rest being higher than 100+ TPE. On defense, they are extremely well equipped with a very impressive d-line, and linebacker core. Average TPE wise, they are at the top with no players at 50 TPE, and most 79+. It’s unfortunate that they happen to be in the same conference as Minnesota which we’ll get to next. Otherwise though, I’d expect a good season from London.
**Originally, I was going to put London and Minnesota in the same group as it hit a nice breakout of groups with 2-4-2. But the more I kept thinking about it, I didn’t think it was fair to London to compare them so directly to the beast that is Minnesota this year. Therefore, I present to you:
The “It’s yours to lose” Team: MIN
Minnesota Grey Ducks:
Offensive TPE: 1732 (ranked 1st in total, 1st in conference)
Defensive TPE: 2321 (ranked 1st in total, 1st in conference)
Total TPE: 4157 (ranked 1st in total, 1st in conference)
Average TPE: 180 (ranked 1st in total, 1st in conference)
#of Capped Players: 10
Minnesota, is without a doubt, the best team TPE wise. They outrank everyone across the board. Not only do they outrank them, but in several cases, the double the TPE of others. I think a lot of this can be attributed to the fact that they have twice as many capped players as the next most teams, at 10. They have 4 capped linebackers alone. FOUR! Two capped safeties, two running backs, and one wide receiver. The only place that could possibly be considered a weakness is their QB who is one of only two not capped at the DSFL. With this strong of a group surrounding the QB I have to imagine this will still be a dominant team as the QB continues to earn.
A few caveats:
- I’ve only included human players in the heat map, no filler bots or GM bots. Each team was only allotted 3-4 GM bots each, and since they all start at 50 TPE I thought they wouldn’t add too much variation to the map.
- This information is pulled from a combination of the TPE tracker, and general knowledge of pending player position swaps, but could be wrong/out of date soon after posting this. I’ll try to keep updating player positions or fix errors as we go along.
- This is based on effective TPE at the DSFL level, which means I noted capped players at 250, and didn’t mark their TPE past that.
With that out of the way, let's move on to the heat map and summaries!
