Muddy's Matchup Review: Weeks 12 & 13
Week 12
Chicago Butchers (7-5) VS New York Silverbacks (4-8)Muddy's Player of the Game
WR Sem'ga Nah'sim (@TheCC)
Stats: 8 Rec, 131 Yds, 16.4 Avg, 1 TD
Reason: Nah'sim came up huge for the Butchers in this game tallying over 130 receiving yards with an early touchdown to tie the game up. Leading the team in receptions shows he was a valuable option for his quarterback the whole game and for that, he earns the PotG
Baltimore Hawks (9-3) VS Berlin Fire Salamanders (4-8)
Muddy's Player of the Game
QB Tuna TurnDaBallOva (@SomeSay...)
Stats: 33/53 passing, 345 Yds, 4 TD, 1 INT | 1 Att, 1 Yd, 1.0 Avg
Reason: TurnDaBallOva delivered a standout performance, throwing for four touchdowns and displaying that he is capable of leading his team to tough victories. With only one mistake with the interception, he more than made up for it by leading the Fire Salamanders to a walk-off TD drive in overtime against the #1 seed Hawks.
Orange County Otters (7-5) VS New Orleans Secondline (8-4)
Muddy's Player of the Game
QB Lloyd Bannings (@bowl0)
Stats: 39/51 passing, 324 Yds, 4 TD, 1 INT, 110.3 passer rating
Reason: Bannings was the driving force behind the Otters' victory. Having a passing rating over 100 with 324 passing yards and 4 TDs is what every team hopes for from their QB week in and week out. When Bannings plays like this, the Otters are a tough team to beat.
Yellowknife Wraiths (6-6) VS Sarasota Sailfish (5-7)
Muddy's Player of the Game
CB Fronky Fresh (@Fronk)
Stats: 9 Tck, 1 FF/FR, 3 PD
Reason: Fresh delivered an outstanding defensive performance, making 9 tackles, forcing a fumble/recovery, and defending 3 passes. His disruptive presence on the field was a key part of the Sailfish's victory, as the fumble he forced and recovered turned into the first TD of the game and swung the momentum to the Sailfish.
Arizona Outlaws (10-2) VS Austin Copperheads (4-8)
Muddy's Player of the Game
K Jayme Jayne Jay-Jaymison (@hannahg32)
Stats: 1/1 XP, 3/3 FG (30 yd, 41 yd, 24 yd)
Reason: Jayme Jayne Jay-Jaymison’s consistent performance was essential in securing the victory for the Outlaws. Jay-Jaymison was perfect on the day, making all three field goals, including a crucial 41-yard field goal in the third quarter to tie the game and the 24-yard field goal to win it all. Securing 10 out of the 16 points for the Outlaws, was an easy choice.
San Jose Sabercats (10-2) VS Honolulu Hahalua (2-10)
Muddy's Player of the Game
QB Josh Patterson (@Tylertokesome04)
Stats: 27/36 passing, 340 Yds, 2 TD, 1 INT, 110.9 passer rating
Reason: Patterson was once again locked in for the Sabercats' win this week as he threw for a passer rating of 110.9 and secured two TDs, including the game-winning score with less than 2 minutes left. A shoutout goes to the Sabercats' defense who had many different players make big plays to also help secure the win.
Colorado Yeti (1-11) VS Cape Town Crash (7-5)
Muddy's Player of the Game
RB Hercules Henry (@woelkers)
Stats: 16 Att, 81 Yds, 5.1 Avg, 2 TD
Reason: Hercules Henry had a very solid showing for the Crash this week as he seemed to be their go-to back. With 81 rushing yards and 2 TDs in the blowout game, Henry was my choice for the PotG as the Crash spread the ball around a lot to everyone this week making the stats pretty even across the board.
Week 13
Cape Town Crash (7-6) VS San Jose Sabercats (11-2)
Overview
The San Jose SaberCats dominated the game against the Cape Town Crash, winning 36-17. The SaberCats started strong, with tackling Thor Bǫllrsveifla for a safety and Florida Man catching a 6-yard pass from Josh Patterson for a touchdown. In the second quarter, Bob Kickerson of the Crash kicked a 50-yard field goal, putting the first points on the board for the Crash. The SaberCats responded with two touchdowns: one from Maple Dogwood with a 2-yard run and another from Orange Julius with a 29-yard pass from Josh Patterson. Booter McGavin successfully converted both extra points to make it 23-3. In the third, Booter McGavin added a 34-yard field goal for the SaberCats. The Crash responded when Dru Freduci caught a 12-yard pass from Thor Bǫllrsveifla for the Crash’s first touchdown, making it 26-10 for the Sabercats. To start the fourth quarter, Maple Dogwood scored his second touchdown of the game with a 1-yard run. Malik Brooks caught a 26-yard pass from Thor Bǫllrsveifla for the Crash's final touchdown. Booter McGavin sealed the victory for the SaberCats with a 26-yard field goal, finished the game 36-17.
My Thoughts
Another solid game for the Sabercats as they are starting to get back on track after dropping the game against the Wraiths two weeks ago. To be fair, one of those wins was against Honolulu so it is almost a gimmie, however, to put up this performance against a playoff team is definitely reassuring. With the Secondline and Outlaws next week, this is going to really show if the Sabercats are ready for a deep playoff run this year or not. As for the Crash, this was a game they wanted to win to make a statement but the Sabercats are just a hard team to beat. With the Wraiths winning this week, they are now tied for that third seed in the NSFC. That makes next week's matchup very exciting as they will be playing each other to see who can get that one-game lead for the playoff spot which is crucial this late in the season. In my opinion, whoever wins next week out of those two will get the playoff spot.
Muddy's Player of the Game
RB Maple Dogwood (@dogwoodmaple)
Stats: 14 rushing attempts, 87 rushing yards, 6.2 YPC, 2 TD | 3 receptions, 22 receiving yards
Reason: Dogwood was all over the field this week for the Sabercats putting up excellent numbers in the rushing game and some support in the passing as well. What really pushed him over the end this week for me is the 2 TDs he put up on the ground to put the Sabercats too far ahead for the Crash to come back.
Yellowknife Wraiths (7-6) VS Colorado Yeti (1-12)
Overview
The Yeti faced off against the Wraiths in a thrilling match that ended with a 30-27 victory for the Wraiths. In the first quarter, the Yeti's Swamp Maiden scored a 1-yard run, although it was quickly followed by a 48-yard field goal by the Wraiths' Zenzeroni Xystarch II. Cheecago Boucher scored a 55-yard interception return, to put the Wraiths ahead 10-7. In the second quarter, the Yeti's Pete Moss kicked two more field goals, with one being answered by a 28-yard field goal by Zenzeroni Xystarch II, tying the score at 13-13. The Wraiths took the lead in the third quarter with another 42-yard field goal by Zenzeroni Xystarch II. Swamp Maiden scored again for the Yeti, with a 6-yard run, followed by a 41-yard pass from Maximus Boudreaux to Nick Williams, leaving the score 23-20 for the Wraiths. In the fourth quarter, the Yeti's Tim Riggins scored a 54-yard pass from Preston Beatz, putting the Yeti in the lead 27-23. However, the Wraiths fought back, with Tyler Hunt scoring a 1-yard pass from Maximus Boudreaux, ending the game at 30-27.
My Thoughts
The Wraiths continue to fight for that final playoff spot as they find a way to bounce back this week and get the W against the struggling Yeti. The Wraiths haven't impressed me since that upset win over the Sabercats as they couldn't find the endzone against the Sailfish and now almost lost to the Yeti. With the Crash, Fire Salamanders, and Outlaws as their final three games, it's going to be a tough stretch. The Yeti looked very good this week compared to last but still couldn't pull out the W. They pretty much have the #1 pick locked up.
Muddy's Player of the Game
LB Cheecago Boucher (@UberBJ)
Stats: 4 tackles, 1 sack, 1 pass deflection, 1 Interception returned for a 55-yard touchdown
Reason: Boucher was causing havoc on the defensive side of the ball this week with a huge interception touchdown to give the Wraiths their first lead in the close contest. With adding a sack, pass deflection, and 4 tackles, Boucher earned my pick for PotG.
Berlin Fire Salamanders (4-9) VS Sarasota Sailfish (6-7)
Overview
The Sailfish secured an important 36-24 victory over the Fire Salamanders. The game opened from the Sailfish as Johnny Blaze Jr. caught a spectacular 44-yard pass from Willier Miller, putting the Sailfish ahead 6-0. However, the extra point attempt by Swantavius King was no good, leaving the score at 6-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Sailfish continued their offensive drive into the second quarter. Swantavius King bounced back with a 38-yard field goal, extending the Sailfish's lead to 9-0. The Fire Salamanders fought back fiercely, with Willie Swaggert scoring two touchdowns from Tuna TurnDaBallOva in the last 4 minutes, turning the tide and making the score 14-9 at halftime for the Fire Salamanders. After the break, the Sailfish came out swinging when Sam Mercury caught a 63-yard pass from Willier Miller, although the two-point conversion failed, leaving the score at 15-14. The Fire Salamanders' Golden Foote then kicked a 46-yard field goal, giving them a brief 17-15 lead. However, the Sailfish answered swiftly with Johnny Blaze Jr. scoring another touchdown, this time a 2-yard pass from Willier Miller, reclaiming the lead at 22-17. The fourth quarter saw the Sailfish continuing their dominance. Sam Mercury once again lit up the field, catching a 55-yard pass from Willier Miller, extending their lead to 29-17. Johnny Blaze Jr. added another touchdown with a 9-yard pass from Willier Miller, further solidifying their lead at 36-17. The Fire Salamanders managed one more touchdown, with Pitter Patter scoring a 9-yard pass from Tuna TurnDaBallOva, but it wasn't enough to alter the outcome, ending the game with a score of 36-24.
My Thoughts
After a great upset win last week against the Hawks, the Fire Salamanders just could not get it done this week against the Sailfish. It is still nice to see the Fire Salamanders fighting this hard so late into the season even if playoffs aren't in view. Hopefully, they can find some positives in the last three weeks for next season. For the Sailfish this was a huge game to win as they stay in playoff contention being only one game behind the third seed. They however need to prove themselves in the final stretch to earn a playoff berth with the #2 Butchers next week and #3 Crash the next. If they can find a way to win those two games, a playoff spot looks extremely likely.
Muddy's Player(s) of the Game
QB Willier Miller (@Sebster) and WR Sam Mercury (@Rise of Smitty)
Willer Miller Stats: 21/37 completions, 348 passing yards, 5 passing touchdowns
Sam Mercury Stats: 5 receptions, 183 receiving yards, 36.6 yards per reception, 2 receiving touchdowns
Reason: This duo was completely unstoppable and they both deserve to be highlighted as the PotGs. Miller was on fire and seemed like he could pretty much do no wrong in the game with having over 300 passing yards, 5 TD passes, and no interceptions. He was picking apart the Fire Salamanders secondary and Mercury was on the other end of that. He had 183 receiving yards and 2 TDs in the game, making whoever guarded him look like they should be back in the DSFL.
New Orleans Secondline (9-4) VS Arizona Outlaws (10-3)
Overview
In a potential playoff matchup, the Secondline secured a 23-16 victory over the Outlaws. The match began with a display of skill from both teams in the first quarter. Jayme Jayne Jay-Jaymison scored a 43-yard field goal for the Outlaws, but Jack Sloth swiftly responded with a 32-yard field goal for the Secondline, leveling the score at 3-3. As the game progressed into the second quarter, the Secondline briefly took the lead with a 44-yard field goal by Jack Sloth. However, the Outlaws swiftly seized control. Donovan Winters III connected with Jordan Bamford for a 1-yard pass. This was quickly followed by a stunning 78-yard pass from Secondline's Octavion Speedings to Hank Mardukas. Jack Sloth © managed to add a 50-yard field goal, ending the quarter with the Secondline ahead 16-10 at halftime. The third quarter witnessed the Outlaws making a strong comeback, tying the game. Jayme Jayne Jay-Jaymison scored two field goals, one from 39 yards and the other from 23 yards. As the tension rose in the fourth quarter, the Secondline took the lead and held on to it. Kyle Crane scored a 1-yard run, securing the victory for the Secondline with 1:07 left on the clock, 23-16.
My Thoughts
If this game doesn't get you excited for the playoffs then I don't know what will. For the Secondline it must feel great to bounce back after that brutal showing last week and to beat the #2 seed in the conference. The Secondline now have a great shot at potentially stealing the #2 seed as they are only a game behind. With the #1 Sabercats this upcoming week, they need to carry this momentum and get another upset win. As for the Outlaws, they have not been looking good and that has to be a bit worrying with playoffs just around the corner. Going 1-2 in the last three games with BARELY beating the Copperheads is not a good look. With an easier matchup with the Silverbacks next week, they need this as a bounce-back game badly as the Sabercats are just waiting around the corner.
Muddy's Player of the Game
WR Hank Mardukas (@Chicken Lips)
Stats: 5 receptions, 121 yards, 1 TD
Reason: Mardukas delivered 121 receiving yards, including a 78-yard touchdown reception that shifted the momentum in the Secondline's favor as it gave them the lead for the first time in the game. Coming out a putting up that kind of performance against one of the league's best teams deserves PotG.
New York Silverbacks (4-9) VS Orange County Otters (8-5)
Overview
The Otters emerged victorious against the Silverbacks in a close game with a final score of 34-27. In the first quarter, the Otters quickly took the lead with a 42-yard field goal by King Leonidas I. The Silverbacks responded with a 5-yard run by Frank Dux, but the Otters surged ahead again with a 19-yard pass from Lloyd Bannings to Big McLarge Huge. The score at the end of the first quarter stood at 10-7 in favor of the Otters. The second quarter saw the Otters extend their lead further. Although Wing Wang scored a 22-yard field goal for the Silverbacks, the Otters had a 10-yard pass from Lloyd Bannings to Oliver Tolliver, and King Leonidas I added to the Otters' score with a 31-yard field goal, giving them a 20-10 lead at halftime. The third quarter was a battle, with the Otters maintaining their lead. King Leonidas I kicked a 29-yard field goal for the Otters, but the Silverbacks fought back with a 69-yard punt return by Sean Robinson. The score at the end of the third quarter was 23-17 Otters. The fourth quarter was the most intense. The Otters continued scoring with a 49-yard field goal by King Leonidas I. However, the Silverbacks responded with a remarkable 59-yard field goal by Wing Wang. The Silverbacks then took the lead with a 44-yard interception return by Loose Cannon, but the Otters quickly reclaimed it with a 54-yard pass from Lloyd Bannings to Diego López de Castilla, securing their victory with a final score of 34-27.
My Thoughts
Now these are the Otters that I remember from the beginning of the season. Going on 3 games in a row winning now, including beating the red-hot Secondline shows they mean business. What a huge game for the Otters and now the playoffs are back insight for them with only being 1 game behind a spot. The rest of their schedule definitely makes it possible as they have the Hahalua and Copperheads, which are two winnable games. If the Secondline struggles these last three weeks, don't be surprised to see the Otters slide right into the playoffs. As for the Silverbacks, they put up another great performance which just fell short. I personally really like this Silverback team and if they can get a few more pieces can easily be a playoff team soon.
Muddy's Player of the Game
QB Lloyd Bannings (@bowl0)
Stats: 31/43 passing, 332 yards, 3 touchdowns, 1 interception, 107.9 passer rating
Reasoning: Bannings once again had an outstanding performance, which included three touchdown passes and the game-winning 54-yard pass to Diego López de Castilla with 1:37 remaining. Bannings continues his late-season surge with the Otters to try and force his way into the playoffs.
Baltimore Hawks (9-4) VS Chicago Butchers (8-5)
Overview
The Butchers secured a narrow victory over the Hawks in an intense match with a final score of 20-17. The game started with a scoreless first quarter as both teams fought to establish their rhythm. In the second quarter, the Butchers were the first to make a mark on the scoreboard. Corey Trevor scored a 2-yard run, which was then followed by a 12-yard pass from Wolfie McDummy Jr to Emile Charles for the Hawks, tying the game at 7-7. However, David Doug kicked a remarkable 54-yard field goal, putting the Butchers ahead 10-7 at halftime. The third quarter saw the Butchers extending their lead. Speedy Gizmo caught a 52-yard pass from Painted Penguin, giving the Butchers a 17-7 advantage. Later, Master Chief added a 41-yard field goal. The Hawks fought back, narrowing the gap to 17-10. In the fourth quarter, David Doug extended the Butchers' lead with a 33-yard field goal, making the score 20-10. With only 1:07 left on the clock, Shane Turnbull caught a 9-yard pass from Wolfie McDummy Jr., bringing the Hawks to within three points. However, the Butchers held on to secure the win with a final score of 20-17.
My Thoughts
The Butchers pulled through this week with a huge win against their conference's #1 seed. This pulls them to only a game behind getting the first-round bye and with all three of their last games being winable, all the pressure is on the struggling Hawks to hold the lead. For the Hawks things just seem to be getting worse and worse, now 1-3 in the last four weeks. They need to find a way to start winning to keep the first seed locked up as you don't want to be limping into the playoffs.
Muddy's Player of the Game
LB Norman Smiley (@SmittyHextall)
Stats: 6 tackles, 1 sack, 3 pass deflections, 1 interception
Reason: Smiley's standout performance on defense was crucial for the Butchers. He made 6 tackles, including 1 sack, and had 3 pass deflections. His late-game interception halted the Hawks' momentum and helped secure the victory for his team.
Austin Copperheads (5-8) VS Honolulu Hahalua (2-11)
Overview
The Copperheads dominated the Hahalua, achieving a commanding victory with a final score of 41-10. In the first quarter, the Copperheads took the lead. Charlie Brown scored a remarkable 51-yard field goal, bringing the score to 3-0. Soon after, Zaphod Beeblebrox caught a 2-yard pass from Jay Cue III, increasing the lead to 10-0. The second quarter saw the Copperheads extending their lead further. Delores Bickerman caught a spectacular 59-yard pass from Jay Cue III, bringing the score to 17-0. However, Hahalua managed to get on the board with a 27-yard field goal by Ray Baker, making it 17-3. Before the end of the quarter, Charlie Brown kicked another field goal, this time from 43 yards, extending the Copperheads' lead to 20-3. The third quarter continued in the Copperheads' favor. Jeff Newman caught a 10-yard pass from Jay Cue III, and then Delores Bickerman caught a 5-yard pass, increasing the lead to 34-3. Hahalua showed some fight, with Forozka Duanei catching a 33-yard pass from Lenard McRobinson, making the score 34-10. In the final quarter, Zaphod Beeblebrox scored his second touchdown of the game, catching a 2-yard pass from Jay Cue III, and Charlie Brown's successful kick brought the final score to 41-10.
My Thoughts
The Copperheads have looked very solid these last three weeks putting up some great games, too bad it's a little too late in the season for them. As for Hahalua, they are back on the losing train with it now 4 in a row. They will be in the fight for the #1 overall pick.
Muddy's Player of the Game
QB Jay Cue III (@Opera_Phantom)
Stats: 30/35 passing (85.7%), 375 yards, 5 touchdowns, 150.9 passer rating
Reason: This one was a no-brainer as Jay Cue III was instrumental in the Copperheads' victory, demonstrating exceptional accuracy throughout the game with an 85.7% completion rate. His five touchdown passes and 375 passing yards lead the Copperheads to a 41-10 win over Hahalua.
