Hi All,
I am here with my DSFL preview for S50. This one will work a little differently than the ISFL one did. Each team will be listed and will have the following information: Last Season Summary; Key Losses; Key Returning players; Key additions; season outlook; predicted finish. We will then also have playoff predictions and award winners. As there are so many fewer DSFL teams hopefully this will be a shorter read for you all. Let's start alphabetically in the North.
North
Kansas City Coyotes
Last Season: was a disappointing one for KCC. They came in last in the North and only managed 4 wins. Interestingly enough 3 of those wins came against teams that made the playoffs (London being the only one they couldn't defeat). Their defense was slightly ahead of their offense, but was middle of the pack or below. They ended on a 5 game losing streak, which was their longest of the season.
Losses: OL, Klaus Reinhardt, DT Ethan Baker, CB Benjamin Abenduct
Key Returning: QB No Pix, WR Big Tractor, CB Casper Constantine, CB Prime Sanders
Additions: DE Paulie Wag, WR Jeff The Land Shark, TE Big Strong Red Panda, DT Brick Wall, LB Miguel Cabelerro Rojo
Outlook: KCC didn't suffer many call up and so are returning the core of their team. The one big miss will be CB Abenduct, but they still return two solid high TPE corners that should keep their Pass D in the top half of the league.
Predicted finish: 3rd
London Royals
Last year the London Royals were the run away winners as the best team in the regular season in the North with a 10-4 record. All 4 losses were to playoff teams (Dallas-2 and 1 each to Portland and Norfolk) Unfortunately, for them, they came up against Portland in the Conference playoff and again couldn't get a win. Their Defense was the key, being the #1 defense overall in the league, with the Offense doing well also.
Losses: OL Baymax, OL Richard Johnson, OL Lakin Makin, DT Hot Dam, LB Ryan Joseph, LB Pizza Monster, CB Lucas Graves, CB Kim Yeon-Seok
Key Returners: QB Dexter Morgan, RB Dalinar Summers, WR Joe Cool, S Victoire Absolute
Additions: LB Ethan Shadow Jr., DE John Scamps, OL Mike Ross, K/P Wayne Kerr
Outlook: While London kept their skill players on offense they were decimated everywhere else. They road their defense to a lot of victories last year and will have to rebuild quickly if they want to make it back to the playoffs again in S50. And I am not sure they have done that.
Predicted finish: 4th
Minnesota Grey Ducks
It came down to the last day of the season last year for Minnesota. They needed a win against Portland to make it into the playoffs and they couldn't get the job done. They finished with a 6-8 record after loosing 5 of their last 6. The offense was stellar at #1 in the league, but their Defense was at the other end of the spectrum, last in most categories.
Losses: TE Hex Waters, DT Jonathan Dailey, DT Anthony Simmons III, and Honda Civic switches from WR to OL
Key Returns: RB Duke Silverback, LB Joe Blaze, WR Joe Blaze, OL Traffic ConQB Greg Hirsch, RB Frederico Cinco
Additions: QBCyrus MacDougall, DT Ghost Panda, LB Abstract Geometry, WR Matt Turk, WR Mason Roberts, DT Cornelius McManama
Outlook: The outlook is pretty bright in Minnesota. The only heavy loss was at DT and they drafted in two replacements immediately. Most skill positions return in full with the exception of Honda Civic converting to OL. But they still have the RB and WR to compensate. It might be a good year for the Grey Ducks.
Predicted Finish: 1st
Portland Pythons
Portland started out rough in S49. They lost 4 of their first 5, but then turned it on in the second half to finish with 6 wins in their last 8 and make it into the playoffs. They then rolled in the Playoffs to win the Ultimini. The running side was the better side in both of their units, but passing Offense and Defense would always come up big when needed.
Losses: RB Gicci Gurley, WR Harvin Marrison, OL smooth green girnch, LB FTBLLCMR4D RUS-KCKR-001, CB Edith Nickelback, and RB Larton Hilnka switches to TE
Key Returns: QB Pasta Rockman, RB JamesIsRunning Wilder, WR Scott Wickerd, DE Carlos Marx, LB JC Tomlinson, S Meguru Bachira
Additions: DE Mikey Knuckelz, RB Ignacio de la Serna, OL UntilTDL Only, LB Jackson Bando
Outlook: Portland was hit hard by callups. Loosing some of their long time core players in Gurley, Marrison, RUS-KCKR-002 and Nickelback. And with Hilnka switching to TE it left only one of thier 3 headed RB room intact. But they do return a lot of their good S50 rookie class and will hope the new class will fit in to fill the holes.
Predicted Finish: 2nd
Playoffs: Portland d Minnesota
South
Bondi Beach Buccaneers
It was another disappointment for Bondi as they finished bottom of the South with a 5-9 record. The 5 game loosing streak in the middle of the season spelled the end for them They ranked dead last in both scorring offense and defense. the one brighter spot was the passing side of the game.
Losses: a whole lot of retired IA S50 players
Key Returns: QB Confurius DeThwilson, RB Sevrin Quinn. WR Golden Ericksen, WR Travis Novak. LB Luna Moon, S Taonga Kofi, S David Corrigan
Additions: TE Rocket Toss, TE Bug Jones, LB Blake Haden, S Roy Rivers
Outlook: The Buccaneers didn't loose much except for dead weight. The core they had from the S50 draft is there and still impressive. Including the 1OA ISFL pick S Taonga Kofi and three other 1st rounders (Quinn, Ericksen, Corrigan). But that was only good enough for 5 wins last year. Will the smaller S51 class help boost them up? Only time will tell.
Predicted Finish: 1st
Dallas Birddogs
Dallas had a good S49 finishing at 7-6-1 and making it into the playoffs. They couldn't finish the deal with a loss to Norfolk. They will be looking to build on that momentum.
Losses: RB Cedric Theriault, WR Old Man Walker, CB William Strong
Key Retures: QB Zack Vega Jr., LB Alexander Hordle Jr., LB Tee Bone, S Akane Saruta
Additions: RB Lasso Jones, CB Xavier La Roux, DT Al Poirpoise, RB Jerome Betis Jr
Outlook: While Dallas didn't loose a lot in quantity, they did loose a lot of quality. Their leading rusher and receiver and a lock down corner. This might hurt the #1 pass defense from last year. Many of their returning player are not at the cap limit yet so need to up the earnings. The draft class has two RBs which might help increase the anemic run game.
Predicted Finish: 2nd
Norfolk Seawolves
Once again Norfolk made it into the playoffs as top dog in the conference finishing with a 9-4-1 record. This year they made it to the Ultimini only to stumble at the final hurdle. For S50 they will be looking to bring home the title.
Losses: RB Nathan Claflin Jr., WR Kevin Finnerty, WR Super Sonic, DT WW Jatt, DT Skee Yee, LB Frosty Steele, S Linz O'Fare
Key Returns: QB Jack Cannon, WR Sweet Sweet Ganjasmoke, LB Sebastian Rosenthal, CB I.Q. Bowman, S Kipp Summers
Additions: LB Chavo De La Crúz, LB Senior Seau, RB Loki Brickstone, RB Ben Yay, WR Karl Idlewyld
Outlook: The outlook is not as rosy as it has been in the past. Norfolk lost a lost of muscle to the ISFL. They did keep a small core of high talent and on offense they kept their dominant duo of Cannon to Ganjasmoke. But they will be relying on two rookies to power their running game after the call-up of Clafin Jr., who led the league in rushing. Defense also took a hit with two DT getting the call that didn't get replaced in the draft.
Predicted Finish: 3rd
Tijuana Luchadores
For the first time in 10 seasons, since S40, the luchadores were sitting home watching the playoffs. They finished under .500 with a 6-8 record. They were a run dominant team with the best running game in the conference and second best in the league.
Losses: QB Challah Famer, RB Brandon Johnson, OL Taylor’s BF’s Brother, DT Thurman Waters, CB Lawrence Crawford
Key Returns: WR Kal Summers Jr, LB Holden Affart, LB Rusty Shackleferd, S Alexandros Sotiris
Additions: CB Kai Ware, QB Peaquod von Turbo, RB Quincy Robinson, WR Deandre Reeler, QB Jack Crackerjack
Outlook: Bleak Bleak Bleak. I see a second year in a row watching the playoff fight from home for Tijuana if things stay how they are. But I don't see how they can. They lost their self proclaimed Hofer QB to call up (and a position swap). And while they had an understudy they drafted not one but two other QBs. Someone has to be changing as they have so many other holes. Kal Summers Jr is a top level player, but is there much else after him on Offense?
Predicted Finish: 4th
Playoffs: Dallas d. Bondi Beach
Ultimini S50
Portland d Bondi Beach and it's a repeat.

And there you have it. Portland will repeat. I think the South is very wide open with so many important spots needing rookies to step up, I wouldn't be surprised if any team finished first. I am going for a true worst to first season. And it was a very unbiased pick for the MVP of the DSFL, but with all the other RB stepping out James has to Run Wild this season.
