I want to open this by saying that this is more of a trial run to test out the formula/sheet I threw together than anything else, and if I'm gonna do a trial run I may as well get paid by writing about it. The goal of the formula is to reward players for their stats with different weights assigned to certain events. However, the rating stays static across each position group (at least for now). This will, of course, help out positions like LB that does a little bit of everything, but for an early model I think it's acceptable. Each player is also compared to others at their position and additional points are earned based on top-8, top-3 or top-1 placements. For simplicity I've named the score each player receives PWR (Paulie Wag Rating).
I hope to do these about once a week, but we'll see how strong the motivation is.
=== CORNERBACKS ===
1st - Kai Ware - PWR of 35
2nd - IQ Bowman - PWR of 24
3rd - Greg Hirsch - PWR of 20
Note: Bot M. Island actually finished with a higher rating than Hirsch
Kai Ware laps the competition after posting a 12 tackle, 2 turnover, and 2 PD game. Ware leads all corners in Forced Fumbles, Interceptions, Tackles, and is 2nd (behind M. Island bot) in pass deflections. IQ Bowman posted a similar stat line to Ware, just without the FF and FR which lead to the large gap.
=== DEFENSIVE END ===
1st - David Hudgens IV - PWR of 11
2nd - Paulie Wag - PWR of 6
3rd - Carlos Marx - PWR of 2
Note: Bot B. Shedder actually lead the group, and bots H. Marduckas + J. Johnson scored more than C. Marx
Defensive End is not a very populated position. There are only 4 non-bots who recorded a stat at the position, so my apologies to R. Templeton for being the only player to not earn a ranking. No defensive end had a particularly good week, as noted by their PWRTG capping at about half of the top Cornerbacks. David Hudgens was the only human DE to notch a TFL, and also tied Paulie Wag for the lead in tackles with an impressive four.
=== DEFENSIVE TACKLE ===
1st - Al Porpoise - PWR of 2
2nd - Chunky Campbell Soup - PWR of 2
3rd - Ghost Panda - PWR of 1
Note: GM Bots F. Rockstone, T. Behemoth and regular bots B. Honch, Reptar, and D. Tangerson all scored higher than any human. GM Bots W. Coyote and D. TheMoonBear scored higher than Panda.
The only position worse than defensive end was defensive tackle. A PWRTG of 2 took first place with the human group, with both humans posting an impressive stat line of 2 tackles. That's the entire line.
=== LINEBACKER ===
1st - Alexandler Hordle Jr. - PWR of 40
2nd - Joe Blaze - PWR of 36
3rd - Ethan Shadow Jr. - PWR of 20.5
Note: GM bot Doug Dimmadome actually finished with a higher PWRTG than Shadow Jr.
Hordle Jr. takes gold behind an impressive first game. He is top 3 in 4 categories (Tackles, Tackles for Loss, Forced Fumbles, and Sacks) and leads two of them. Joe Blaze was close behind, with a top 3 placement across 3 categories and leading in two of those three. Blaze and Hordle Jr are the only players to post double digit sacks in week 1. Hordle Jr ultimately beats out Blaze because of the difference in negative plays (6 vs 4) and his extra top 3 stat, as it's an extremely close race to start the season.
=== SAFETY ===
1st - Meguru Bachira - PWR of 32
2nd - Leroy Jenkins - PWR of 21
3rd - Taonga Kofi - PWR of 9
Bachira stuffed the stat sheet in an opening week win, recording 7 tackles, 1 sack, 1 interceptions, 2 pass deflections, and the lone blocked punt of the season to date. Bachira gains a lot of points off leading stats, as they are the top in 4 different categories (all tied for first). Bondi Beach takes the next two places with the strong safety duo of Jenkins and Kofi (who combined are still lower than Bachira) Jenkins had the only other interception by a safety.
=== DPOTY ===
1st - Alexander Hordle Jr. (LB)
2nd - Joe Blaze (LB)
3rd - Kai Ware (CB)
The Defensive Player of the Year list is compiled the same as each position list, but with every defensive player. So some points may shift around as the top 8/3/1 performers in categories change when the groups are combined. In this case, all 3 early contenders retain their same score because of their impressive performances. The biggest faller is Bachira, who still shows up in the leaderboards for 4 stats, but loses a couple top-1 and top-3 placements.
Hordle, Blaze, and Ware remain the standout players so far this year. Hordle is almost doubling up the 4th place player, IQ Bowman, and remains top 3 in 4 categories. Ware also is top 3 in 4 categories.
I hope to do these about once a week, but we'll see how strong the motivation is.
