Prior to his first NSFL season, Blackford Oakes spent his offseason doing what many young men after leaving college: absolutely nothing.
Well, that's not entirely true. During his time at Notre Dame, Oakes met a researcher named Dr. Hans Vogel Schifftheimer who is trying to revolutionize the way work outs, well, work. In agreeing to test drive the WorkMeOut 9000 Oakes spent the majority of his offseason lounging on his couch catching up on TV shows and playing video games while listening to short sentences repeated ad naseum. Oakes was concerned about how his speed would translate to the NSFL so he focused on the "Run. Fast. Good." program. His only real exercise was walking from the couch to the kitchen to grab a beer or a carton of goldfish.
Surely there's no way a person can actually get faster by laying down and listening to the same three words over and over but upon Oakes' arrival at Las Vegas Legion training camp there were many comments among observers that it was the fastest they'd ever seen the young safety. He is still early in his WorkMeOut 9000 training regiment but if the early signs are any indication, Oakes could play a long and successful career on the field while being a fat, lazy slob off it.
