Dear Diary,
I hate the Chicago Blues.
It’s that simple. I’ve noticed that they tend to be led by a bit of a whiner, and the team itself just annoys me. Crappy logo, name, colors, city. Whatever. I just decided that I want to beat them badly. And that’s exactly what I went out and did.
My coaches put together a fantastic game plan for this contest. We went into Chicago Stadium and played our hearts out. I had my long awaited breakout game here, finally scoring my first touchdown. I ended up catching 12 passes for 120 yards and two TDs! I couldn’t have been happier. All of my hard work was finally paying off. The team was 3-0, this was awesome. Back in the locker room, the guys were all congratulating me and Johnny W because he too had a monster game. They couldn’t stop our passing attack, and we won by 40 points. I was awarded the game ball on top of it!
And that’s when the most confusing thing that’s ever happened to me in my football career happened.
It turns out that a couple of Chicago players weren’t originally allowed to play in our game. I don’t quite know what they did, but either way they were suspended. Of course they were appealing, but the Commissioner wasn’t going to have a decision by game time, so they couldn’t suit up. They probably wouldn’t have made a difference considering the hurt we just put on Chicago, but if that’s something the Blues want to rally around, go for it.
Well, I guess that they were cleared to play before the game started, but because the referees and on field officials never received word from the head office, they weren’t allowed to play still. The Chicago GM threw a monster fit when he realized his players weren’t on the field. He appealed the game to the league office. Sure, I guess I’d be mad too, but we already played our game, and we were back in Portland. There’s not much they can really do about it. Right? RIGHT?
Wrong. We were ordered by the league office to go back to Chicago and re-play the game. What kind of League enforces this type of nonsense? The NSFL, it seems. The next day we get back on a flight to Chicago and get forced to play a game we already won. The game just “disappears”, no stats, no win, nothing. So now my monster game is deleted from my record book. I’m pissed off, but I’m also exhausted because in the span of two days I flew from Portland to Chicago to Portland to Chicago, and played in a hard hitting football game, and I’m gearing up to do it again.
Of fucking course Chicago game planned the right way, with fresher players that just didn’t play a game the day before, and we got stomped. We lost 33-3, which its surprising that it was only a 30 point loss when you consider that we didn’t have our hearts in this game at all. It was such a deflating feeling for a new player like myself to be forced to replay a game over some bullshit that wasn’t our fault at all. I ended up with 6 catches for 71 yards, which was my best output of the season still, but it just wasn’t the same as the 12 for 120 and 2 TD monster I put up the night before.
I really contemplated if the NSFL really was the place for me after that. If a league that wants to be taken seriously does some shady clown shit like forcing games to be replayed, maybe its not for me. I’ll really have to think about this one.
