I haven’t had a lot of time to work on my blog since becoming a member of the Philadelphia Liberty and I’ve been slacking a bit since the draft so I figured I should try to get some more media up for the fans!
Hey Liberty fans! You guys might not know who I am, but I was a member of the Portland Pythons for 2 seasons and a DSFL Ultimini champion in my first season. After many experts and scouts had me going number one overall, it become quickly obvious that Brian Mills would be the number one draft pick in the S6 NSFL Draft. I thought that was a good decision since Mills is a really respectable guy and I had a hell of a time playing against him and Tijuana Luchadores during our DSFL season together. I went fourth overall, but I was glad to land in one of my top 3 destinations. Since becoming a member of the Liberty team, I switched to defensive end and dropped a lot of weight to focus on making my speed and agility the primary focus. As far as my stats go so far, I’ve got 20 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles, and 2 sacks. Now these aren’t stellar numbers for even a rookie, but I haven’t been the most diligent person in practice lately so it’s been tough to keep up with my peers. I think I’ve let the team down since I’ve been training like a third round pick rather than a top 5 pick.
Luckily for me, our Liberty defensive line is really good. I’m not joking around when I say that! We have the strongest man in the NSFL in Eli Kamaka and he’s joined by Godfrey King in the front along with myself and Drew Davidson on the ends. Now we don’t get a lot of tackles, but we do lead the league in forced fumbles and sacks which is a big testament to the hard work our line does up front in each game. I think we do a good job at plugging the running game and finding ways to force fumbles every game so that’s exciting to see. We even did it twice at home against the Yeti where Jaylon Lee and Eli Kamaka both forced fumbles to make the Yeti think twice about running since we had those chances to recover the football. We also beat the Wraiths with stellar defense too in week 1. Our linebackers were especially great with Perry Tucker and Micah Hendrix putting up solid tackles and I even got a sack in my first regular season game as a Liberty player! That was a great moment to march into Yellowknife and win the game like that in a convincing way.
Overall, I think I need to step it up on defense more if we hope to make the playoffs and close out the season strong. Being 4-3 right now in the NSFC isn’t good since it’s a really competitive division and we’re 2-1 in division games right now tied with the Baltimore Hawks. I’m surprised that the Yellowknife Wraiths aren’t at the top of the division right now. This time last season they were 6-1 and ended the season with 10-4. That’s a magical number I think I want our team to reach by the end of the season for sure. We are currently 2nd in the league in passing offense and defense, but we don’t do a good job at stopping the run since we’re 6th in rushing defense right now. For the last stretch of games I’m looking forward to playing the last ones at home from weeks 10 through 13 with our last game of the season in Colorado that should be a cakewalk considering how their team is doing. We have a good chance at getting 10-4 by the end of it so here’s to hoping we do! Keep an eye out for my weekly blog Liberty fans! I promise I won’t let you down anymore. Let’s ring that bell by the end of the season!!!
