Ricky Maddox was already labeled as a superstar in the eyes of some without playing a single down in the NSFL.
One of those people is apparently basketball legend Michael Jordan.
Maddox announced the news via Twitter late Wednesday evening, implying that he was "handpicked" by the GOAT [Michael Jordan] to help carry on the legacy.
“We are thrilled to add Ricky Maddox to the Jordan family of athletes,” Jordan Brand president Larry Miller said in a release. “He's an amazing athlete on the field and an even better individual off the field. We are excited to watch him grow and see him travel on the road to greatness.”
After a stellar show at the NSFL Combine, posting a blazing 4.55 40yd Dash for a young man standing 6'6 tall, also leading all TEs in Vertical and Broad Jump events in the process, he hasn't slowed down his pace and he appears eager to turn it up a few more notches before his name is called Thursday evening.
Maddox helped usher in a new era of excellence while at Georgia.
In 2014, started in 13 games as a redshirt freshman. Earning him a spot in the Freshman All-American team and a second-team USA TODAY Sports All-America honoree.
The following year, he was named a First-Team All-American by the Associated Press, leading his team in TD Receptions (13) and breaking the previous record of 12 in the process. The game that firmly gorilla glued Maddox onto everybody's radar has to be the Florida/Georgia game in Jacksonville where he exposed the defense time and time and time again, breaking the single game TD record in Georgia history (4).
To close out his collegiate career, Maddox earned Consensus All-American honors in 2016. Breaking his own TD reception record for a single season (15) and the single season reception record (62). He is also the sole leader of TD receptions in Georgia history (35).
With the NSFL Combine, All American Bowl and his Pro Day back at the Georgia Bulldogs Athletic Facility all wrapped up, he will now have to stay patient as he will realize his dream when the NSFL Draft begins on June 1st.
Where he will bring his dominance, we will have to wait and see.
