I wasn't sure how I was going to open this thing up but here it goes. I knew when I first came to DSFL things were going to start off being really interesting. My career started off as a tight end and things were pretty decent to start off. I didn't have any real complaints about playing time and I was just here to prove that I can handle playing at the minor league level. Sure things weren't all glam and what not, but I was the starting tight end on a team. The cool thing was that I wasn't quite sure what to expect but as time went on, I was just hoping for at least one reception or more per week. I know that it's hard for a tight end to be able to get into the passing attack and I knew the risk coming in as a tight end over a wide receiver.
Tight ends aren't really valued like a wide receiver and it seems so when the game is played as well. Usually you think of a tight end who blocks and is there for a check down or something. I was trying to be too much of a receiver and it hurt other aspects of my game. I didn't want to block at all and it seemed to have affected the pass game and the run game from it. I was just looking out for myself and I was for some reason just trying to worry about myself. When you ask my teammates, they would tell you how greedy I was and how I was far from the ideal teammate. Something had just been wrong with me and I knew that it was time for a change.
The off-season had hit and I went to reflect back home. Unaware of what I needed to do to help myself become a better player, I just stuck to what I knew best. I was always out having fun and partying and it seemed like I was getting nowhere. One night I went to sleep as a man who was 6'7 and then the next morning for some reason I had shrunk four whole inches to 6'3. Not really sure what happened but before I knew it that would be the best thing that happened to me. I also dropped a few pounds and now listed as 225 pounds. I guess you can say this was a sign from above that I had to change my ways.
When I got back to the training facility, I reached out to GM's 124715 and AzhekAhriman to discuss my move to the wide receiver spot. I had been working all off-season since my transformation and had gotten quite faster than I was. I told them that I was prepared to step up and be their go to guy. I wanted to help this team in whatever way I could and the only way I knew how was to get more and more practice hours in. I was at the facility night and day and it almost seemed as if I had lived there. I was always there whenever anyone else walked in and I was there when everyone else left as well. I knew this was my true calling and that I was ready to step up and be a team player.
Things had gotten off to an interesting start during pre-season. While I knew I was listed as the team's top option in the passing game, I only managed four receptions for a total of 64 yards in a solid win over the Tijuana Luchadores. Week two saw us face the Norfolk SeaWolves and I only managed to get three receptions for 24 yards in a painful loss. The third week had came by and things looked even more bleak than they had ever been. One reception for five yards in a loss to the Palm Beach Solar Bears. It was the final week of the pre-season and I knew I had to do something. We were facing the Solar Bears again but this time I was ready for what was about to happen. Despite the team still taking a loss, my production went up. I had five receptions for 59 yards and I felt like I had a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. I was wondering if I was going to do any better by the time the season had rolled around.
When the season had came around things looked a lot better for me statistically. Week one I had six receptions for 59 yards but we ended up losing to the Portland Pythons. Week two had came around and I knew I had to step up my game at some point. Grabbing five receptions I managed to get 68 yards to help the team beat the San Antonio Marshalls. The third week was up and I managed to grab six receptions for 57 yards and still had not crossed the end zone line once. Now week four was upon us and things seemed like they were looking up for me. In a huge win over the Norfolk SeaWolves, I managed to grab five receptions for 60 yards and I scored twice. To think it would have taken four weeks before I had gotten my first touchdown. While things were looking up, my stats kept going up as well in week five. Five receptions for 93 yards was one of my best performances of the season. The Portland Pythons managed to beat us but I was still ecstatic over my production. Things weren't exactly as good as I had thought. Week six had came by and I only grabbed one reception for 10 yards in a blowout over the Solar Bears. My misfortunes would carry over to week seven as I had two receptions for 16 yards in another blowout this time against the Tujuana Luchadores. Week eight showed a little love towards my stats with three receptions for 45 yards. Of course it came as a loss against the Solar Bears. Week nine was a nail biter against the Portland Pythons but we won and I added seven receptions for 99 yards. It seemed as if things had come back around for me. The 10th week brought a shutout win over the San Antonio Marshalls as I had two receptions for 11 yards. Three receptions and 20 yards were my totals for week 11 against the Norfolk SeaWolves in a nice win. The 12th week was here and it saw me have six receptions for 64 yards in a win against the Tijuana Luchadores. Week 13 brought me four receptions for 62 yards and still no other score yet. Things were alright in a win over the Norfolk SeaWolves. The final game of the season was by far my best game to date. In a shootout loss to the Portland Pythons, I notched seven receptions for 95 yards and a score. The season had ended and I finished with 61 receptions, 755 yards and three scores through 14 games.
While I know that I have a lot more practice hours to go before I play for my NSFL team, (yes I was drafted and I was drafted to the New Orleans Second Line), I know that I can show that they didn't make a mistake in picking me. The team is loaded right now at the wide receiver spot with superstar players such as Dustin Evans and Charlie Law. The team also has solid depth at the third and fourth slots with Stormbless and Kenny Omega. While I would end up as the team's fourth receiver, ahead of Omega, I know that I would not want to play up yet and ruin my chance at developing into the stud that the team needs. It seems like this team is ready to compete at a high level and I want to eventually be a part of that soon. I have been working very hard on my game and I want to be able to show both of my GM's that they did not make a mistake in taking me. Some chatter around the league is that I will end up as a journeyman around the DSFL. Well to them I say, "Thanks for the fuel I need to kick start my career. Without haters and doubters in this world, who would be there to push people to do things?" I mean I know for one I am very thankful for those out there who have said that I won't make it or that I can't handle things under pressure. Well guess what? I, Stone Hans, will be busting my ass each week to show my worth to not only my DSFL team but also my NSFL team. I have a target on my back and I am looking to have it follow me along on my journey to become one of the greatest wide receivers that the NSFL has ever seen.
