PHILADELPHIA, PA - Ahead of their home opener on Monday versus the New Orleans Second Line, the Philadelphia Liberty have announced that they are retiring the number 5 worn by former QB Tyler Oles. He played several season at cornerback before making the switch to offense and making the transition to quarterback. The highlight of Oles’s career is leading the Philadelphia Liberty to their first NSFL Ultimus Championship in Season 7. The odds were stacked against the Liberty that season, they entered the playoffs has a heavy underdog to the Yellowknife Wraiths, but on the arm of Oles were able to upset the Wraiths on the road, in Yellowknife. The next game wouldn’t get any easier as the Liberty would have to travel to Orange County and face the three-time defending champion Otters in the Ultimus Championship. Oles put in a dominant performance, throwing for three touchdowns and sealing the victory for the Liberty. Tyler Oles will always be remembered for what he accomplished both on and off the field in Philadelphia, the Liberty are truly lucky to have had a player of such quality represent their franchise. It is only fitting that no other Liberty player will ever wear the number he wore when the Liberty carried their first Ultimus trophy off the field.
