I hope you don't think I am saying I would be too good to take advantage of said rule, but that doesn't mean I think it's a good rule, and I hope it is changed to include a minimum time as GM prior to being used.
It is something that I agree should be discussed. it was not our intention to use these rules in our favor, but this has been a long time coming for MP, and if Westfield were still able to take the position, I'd have gladly given it to him. But you could still use the same argument against him as you are me. Fact is, we have 3 players who have the tenure to be a qualified GM. TC can not, since he is Simmer. This left me and Westy. Westy's real life obligations deter him from taking the position.
So, this left me. Or we could have opened up the hiring to all people, and potentially poached a qualified player from a contending team, and I honestly didn't feel comfortable doing that. In Orange County, we're a family and we prefer to promote from within when possible. I know this team, and I have been assisting in the Office for some time. The line of succession pointed at me, and had been for a while. It was just a matter of when, not if, I took it. Given circumstances in MP's life, now seemed like the best time. We could have waited a season, but there was no legitimate reason not to do it sooner rather than later.
I would be quite alright with a "Term Limit" so to speak. Minimum of X seasons as a GM (barring complete inactivity) and that is definitely something the HO can work on this offseason, if they so choose.
