Immediately following the last practice of the season I heard commotion coming from the locker room. When I entered the locker room I found two of my Teammates who for the sake of our Team I will not be naming in this article had been into a physical fight. While anger and passion are understandable after the end to our season this is supposed to be a family disagreements are natural but physical confrontations will not be tolerated. I decided to call a players only meeting to discuss the issues.
“Thanks for coming guys Boom and I appreciate you attending. After the other day we wanted to take a moment and talk with you guys. We love the passion and the engagement in the success of our Team. While missing the playoffs were obviously not part of the game plan it happened. If we want to build on our success next season we have to stay united. This is the time to address any and all frustrations. When we leave this room we leave as one. Whether that be in an hour or Eight hours this ends today.” We spent the next little while behind closed doors hashing out our family issues and emerged from that meeting closer than ever.
The prompt for this week’s point task is highly implausible. The New Orleans Second Line is one of the most friendly locker rooms around, filled with awesome people who like and support one another. However, if I fight does break out, we would likely take the offenders to a court-style trial with players representing their teammates as lawyers, and other players serving as judges and juries. NOLA has had a team trial in the past, notably when some members of the team picked against NOLA to win the Ultimus in playoff predictions and they actually went on to win in S21. I could see a fight breaking out potentially between Guitar Master and certain members of the locker room such as ddrector, Mithrandir, and Jay_Doctor related to the Lord of the Rings. @GuitarMaster116 says that Frodo is a terrible character. Others such as me, @ddrector and @Jay_Doctor tell GM that he should read the books before making such an ignorant comment. Frodo carried all the weight of the responsibility and evil of the ring as is a true hero. Now that I think of it, I think we will bring GM to trial to answer for his heresy against the great Lord of the Rings franchise.
First of all, any coach out there should know that asking Crooks to split up any conflict is a conflict within itself. For one, I am not the one to work in a politically correct manner. I work in a realistic manner. There are certain situations that just cannot be dealt with "the right way" --- they just have to be dealt with.
Scenario one: two teammates start arguing over playing time. Maybe one player was injured and the other was given the spot and now has a big, inflated ego. Maybe one player spent all summer grinding but the incumbent is in the coaches' good graces and can do no wrong. Knowing that, the latter shuns the former. See, at this point we can't have the beef simmering like this. We need both players to play one-on-one for that spot. But both winner and loser has to shut it after it is all over. Scenario two: let us say there is a money dispute. Doesn't matter the details, if somebody owes money, they are gonna pay up or we're gonna give them some real reasons to not have the money. Nothing like having your clothes go missing or your called filled with popcorn to get a message across. If someone is accused of stealing, then we gonna have to handle that because we don't do thieves. Scenario three: romantic rumbles. Usually I stay out of intertwined and extra-marital affairs but I learned that you cant trust someone who will plot and scheme to take your lover from you. Then smile in your face everyday. Like Matt Barnes said of Derek Fisher, "violence isn't the answer but sometimes it is."

If I was raging a personal war with a teammate this is how it would likely go down.
Them: Blaming someone for something that can’t be changed at this point or deciding that their point of view is the only one that is valid or should exist. Could also be deluded and be displaying an ego. Me: Points out there is more than one way to look at things. That the world is not painted in black and white. Explaining that shades exist and while it is ok they can see from their view point they must acknowledge it is not the only one or the only valid one. Once the ego comes to play I laterally lose my cool, no one man or woman is the whole team. You think you are a god and can do no wrong… well that sounds like a good way to make me never want to interact with you. In my opinion there is a line between being proud and celebrating and shoving your victories in others faces, usually it comes down to those who remember that other ppl factor in and acknowledge their contribution to the over all success of both the team and individual. Luckily for anyone who fights with me I don’t usually hold a grudge. it takes a lot for me to writw off a person entirely. |
