The DSFL draft day was a hard one for Franklin Armstrong. Slated by many before the draft as the leader of the S14 DSFL QB class, he was quite confident he would go in the first few rounds. “I feel like I’m clearly better than the rest of the class. I’ve put in more work, have more experience and so on. I’m a no-doubt great pick for any team who gets me” said Franklin Armstrong a few hours before the draft.
His draft day party could be described as a humble one, as he only had close relatives and a few childhood friends there at the small event. He and his family ended up sitting there for hours upon hours waiting for Armstrong to get picked, as the world watched Armstrong fall shockingly all the way to the 63rd pick of the 11th round of the draft. Armstrong ignored reporters as he seemed clearly distraught. “Why did he fall so far?” was a question on many people’s minds, and most importantly his family's and friends. Whether it be the tough Prospect Bowl experience, or Armstrong being slightly less accessible to media as other QB prospects, the fall still has many people scratching their heads. Armstrong, having mulled over the terrible day over the period of a week, sent out this tweet to the DSFL community. Despite the fall, Armstrong has been put in a great situation when compared to other QBs of his draft class. As Caleb McCoy has been called up to the NSFL, Armstrong will be given the reigns to the Pythons S14 QB position. He seems to be fully determined to prove the doubters wrong in his rookie year in the DSFL! (285 words).
Draft day is recent for my most recent guy, Ricardo Morris. Before that, I had two drafts with my prior player of Darren Morris. Ironically in both the S4 DSFL draft and the recent S14 DSFL draft, 10 seasons apart, my player last named Morris ended up on a team that slm was GMing - the first with the Marshals in S4 and the second with the Seawolves in S14. The experience was very different - from not knowing what was going on and trying to figure things out and dropping a podcast in the hours before the draft, to being much more comfortable and familiar with the league and how the process works the second time around. I had no clue where I'd end up, but considering the quality of the DSFL GMs in the league to get to play for I had no concerns about any of the options. Nonetheless I was thrilled to end up again with slm and to help lead the Seawolves out of the bot-era teams and back into the light of professional development football. Being taken at the top of the third seems like a good spot for Ricardo, all things considered, and I really enjoyed watching the other players taken before and after me. Should a be a fun season in the DLeague.

To be fair, even though I thought I would go higher, I can't complain and I can't think I'd rather go to a different team. I want to be better, I have to be better. I was picked in Round 11. 2 Offensive Linemen went in front of me. I wasn't the strongest, but I know how to block; isn't that what matters. No. Strength is all that matters. 11 pancakes, 1 sack in the prospect bowls, evidently that isn't enough. It was an emotional day to day the least. Everything was spinning when I got the from the Bears. I couldn't believe i finally made it after all the years of fighting to prove others wrong. My family was there, all day long, through the 11 long rounds until my name was finally called. It was a whirlwind. We through a celebration party afterwards and everyone was there from my parents to my extended family. It was more of a family affair than anything else. Beforehand though it was one of the longer days I've been through. Round after round passing by and nothing happening. Never be a day like that, I think, with all the anticipation and waiting it's second to none.

Draft day came and went. Man, what a hell of a ride. All of my hard work and discipline came to this. You could probably call out any human emotion and I could tell you that I felt it on that day. I had talked to a few GMs leading up to the day and had no idea what to expect. I didn't know if I'd be drafted in the first 10 or the last 10. I'd answered the questions, gone to all the workouts, networked with the players. I remembered all of the work that went into getting here and I felt at ease knowing that wherever I go, I'm going to put 110% in. My family and I were gathered around the television. There were at least 20 of us huddled around my phone and the TV. These were the people that helped me get to where I am today and I'm forever grateful. Then it happened. My phone rang. I was called at #11. I couldn't believe it. The Kansas City Coyotes had selected me at #11. My family and I were in disbelief and full of just pure happiness. The journey has begun. NSFL Record Books here I come.
When the draft rolled around, with the amount of hype around me, I decided I wanted to attend and experience it myself. That, and I heard they’ll give you as much Dr. Pepper as you want while you’re waiting. Teams had started to solidify their draft boards by the time I was healed from the flu, so I knew I wouldn’t be a first round pick, but I thought I’d go decently high in the 17 rounds. After pick 20, the hosts of the draft mentioned that they wanted to “get ahead” of the public and address why I hadn’t been picked yet, commenting on the hype and the energy I brought to the league. That was real humbling and I really nice of them to mention me before I’d even gotten called, and I started thinkin’ my name might get called soon. Tijuana had 2 picks in the 4th round, and they were the team I had the most communication with, and the team I liked the most pre draft, so I thought there was a chance I’d go pick 22, lo and behold that’s when my name got called. I knew I wanted to go to Tijuana, but the fact that they chose 2 offensive linemen with 2 of their 3 picks before me made me want to go their even more. I couldn’t have been more excited to get picked where I did, and I can’t wait for the season to start.

Errol Maddox had two draft day experiences, one in the DSFL and one in the NSFL. In the DSFL draft, he entered with more uncertainty as he had not gotten a good read on where teams ranked him as a prospect. He thought he could potentially be a first round prospect, but wasn't sure where he stood in comparison to the rest of the class. He ended up waiting a little longer than he had expected as he went #11 overall with the third pick in the third round, but it made sense in context of the draft as there were several strong receiver prospects so teams prioritized other positions and there weren't any receivers drafted before the third round. Maddox ended up being selected by the Portland Pythons, the same team he had played a few games for as a waiver pickup in the previous season. It was a good fit as he was able to develop well and win a championship during his season in Portland.
Maddox's other draft day experience came in the NSFL draft. There was less mystery in this draft as he had already had some extensive talks with the Baltimore Hawks and they had told him that he was the top prospect on their board, so he knew that they would select him with the #2 pick if he was not selected #1. He was not selected with the #1 pick, so he was drafted by the Hawks as expected and got to play for his hometown team. The Hawks have been a good fit for him so far as he's enjoyed his time with them and recently signed an extension to keep him in Baltimore 3 more years after his rookie contract expires. Talk about a stressful day! I was sitting there in the green room feeling like A-Aron Rodgers for what felt like ages. First round, second round, third round....You get the picture. I knew that I had put in the work. I knew that I had great interviews with the DSFL GMs that I had spoken with. I knew that I was the hardest working linebacker in the draft and that I have all the abilities to be the very best at any level.
Fourth round, fifth round....Ok, now I'm starting to question the intelligence of the people making these decisions. "Are they blind?", "Is it because I'm white?", "Did they not see my collegiate stats?"....All of these were questions that I was asking myself. Round 6: Pick 1 - Giannis Kroutis - S - AirCrou, Round 6: Pick 2 - Faith Terim - S - Eco, Round 6: Pick 3 - Lightsout Lewis - LB - ECU! #itsaboutdamntime began to trend worldwide and the Pythons had just made the best damn decision of their organization's existence! I was elated to finally be selected, but I was also angry that it took so long! In the end, it has fueled me and it will continue to do so. Because of that lonely day I spent waiting forever, I will be the next Tom Brady of linebackers. "Many men wish death upon me" as the G.O.A.T. would say!
