The Portland Python’s season has been one of both highs and lows, that right now gives them an extremely narrow and unlikely path to the playoffs. However, the Pythons have something to hold their heads up about if they even win one more game, and that’s the fact that they achieved a .500 season compared to their losing season last year. This gain may be modest, but it shows signs of a team progressing forward, especially in a conference that could possibly have every team with a winning record, or .500 records at the least. What kept the Pythons in the season as much as they were was their defense. At the time of this writing, the Pythons defense is first in the league in both yards per game and rush yards allowed in the DSFL, while also being third in the league for points per game. Portland’s offense has also given them a great performance so far in the season where they finish in the top half of the league in points scored per game, overall yards per game, rushing yards, and passing yards per game. With both sides of the ball being competent, a lot of their luck has just not been good luck which has led to the razor thin edge that could nudge them into the playoffs. During the offseason they could afford to shore up both their offensive and defensive units to try to be more dominate next season.
