Hmm, what would I do if I had an extra four million dollars from my new ISFL contract? Well, I’ve never played in the ISFL, haha, but for the sake of the theoretical question, we’ll say I have.
Everyone likes to think they know exactly what they’d do in this situation, but at the end of the day, if something so outlandish really did happen, the decision made would be so much harder. What could I do with this extra money? What if someone were to find out? That’s a lot of extra money… but how much trouble would I be in were I to be caught? Back and forth in my mind I would probably go for a while. Then I’d think about the relationship I’ve built with my GMs. I like to think I have a strong relationship with Rev and Asked Madden. One that wouldn’t allow me to hide the fact that I was accidentally given $4,000,000 too much. It would absolutely be gut wrenching to have to turn that money back in, but I believe in karma. I’m sure that if I didn’t turn that money in, it would catch up to me on the field and I’d end up with some sort of season ending injury.
Money in the bank, what to do? Doc lives a simple life, when he signed his contract with the London Royals it was enough to buy 15 acres in Wyoming with a 5th wheel. This was always his dream. To have land where he could live out his days, when he’s not on the field, in privacy looking out over the sunset and riding his horse, Ghostzapper, around.
So what would Doc do if he saw an extra 4 mil in his account? Truth be told it would take him a while to notice the money in his account. In all honesty Doc has been screwed over enough in his life by his parents that he wouldn’t want anyone else to feel that way. Salt of the earth, warm hearted and honest Doc would go into the office and let the GM know that they made a mistake and gave him some extra money. “It’s about the principle of it all”, Doc would say. “It’s all about what you do when people aren’t looking, that’s the true measure of a person.” As he jumps up onto Ghostzapper he looks back and says. “I suppose I’d rather have the trust of my team and my GM then ruin it over some money.”
A free $4 million? I’m taking that money straight to get my T6 equipment! Just kidding.
First and foremost, it would be wrong to keep the money and not say anything from a morality standpoint. Particularly when it was an honest mistake made by someone that is giving you a chance and wants to work with you and have you on their team. Taking advantage of their mistake would not only burn a bridge with them in terms of your relationship, it would also put you on the outs in regards to the team. You might not get as much playing time, they might sign a replacement at your position, your teammates might get turned against you, etc. Secondly, there could be some legal implications at play. If that $4 million was not in the contract and just showed up in your bank account, keeping it might be illegal. I wouldn’t want to give up all the good things I have going on in my life, including my promising virtual football career. Lastly, I will make far more than that $4 million in the rest of my ISFL career, so risking it all for this quick payday is definitely not worth it. It might be easy to take that money and flee the country and live out a great life in some random paradise country with no extradition laws, but that’s not the life Deshawn Penne wants to live.
I feel like if I got an extra 4 million in my contract accidentally, I would bring it up to the GM. I guess it depends on whether or not it counts against the cap though. I’d rather not steal 4 million from my team if it means my team loses 4 million in cap space, as that would probably really hurt the team. As well, I feel like i’d probably get punished in some way if I tried to spend it. Someone on HO or the audit team or something like that would look at my bank account and what money i should have and be like “hey woah what the heck is going on there”. I know the bank tracks transactions of how much money goes in and out, so they might see the money that i’ve gained and spent as well, and then from there ask the GMs if that was on purpose. But yeah even without risk of punishment i’d still probably bring it up to the GMs, just in case. Or i’d probably be completely oblivious and assume that I accidentally did something to gain the money or got payed for some job i forgot about or something like that, because i’m completely sure i’d do something like that.
I am wondering how I will be able to get to 200 words on a question like this. It is obvious, is it not? If I have an extra $4M in the contract that the team did not agree on, there is no way on earth that I could keep it. I would have to go immediately to my GMs and explain the situation. First of all, it is a personal integrity thing. How can I take something that is not mine? That is lying and theft and how could I get up in the morning and look at myself in the mirror.
It is also an incredible breach of the trust that is essential for any team of any kind. Talent matters, but being able to trust your management and your teammates matters too. Players and coaches are always talking about how it is the team that comes first – before the individual. Anyone who would even consider pocketing the money is going against that basic concept. They are stealing from the team in general, but also individual players that are supposed to be thought of as family. I am not stealing from my biological brother and I am not stealing from my brothers and sisters on my team either. Code: 210 words |
