Tier 2.1 An Award for Max
Max had a great inaugural season for the Tijuana Luchardores. As WR2 he led the Luchadores WR group with 904 yards and 10 touchdowns on 56 receptions (21 fewer than the WR1). Electric whenever he touched the ball with a stellar 16.1 yards per reception he did his part and more on a run heavy Tijuana team, which features an RB1 with 203 touches and a Quarterback with 111 rushes compared to 272 passing completions. The Luchadores certainly benefited from this style of play by posting a league leading 10 wins and entering the playoffs as the league favourite. That being said Max couldn’t help but feel that if he could get the ball just a few times more per game, the team as a whole would benefit from it. In their playoff game against the Birddogs Max was electric once again putting up 72 yards and 2 touchdowns on only 4 touches. From the 15 yard line on the opponent's side of the field, Tijuana had the chance to score a touchdown and put the game away. Max had 9 touchdowns from this part of the field this season, becoming a bit of a redzone threat over the first part of his career. However when it came crunch time Max had to watch as balls to his fellow WRs and even his RB were thrown and were either incomplete or short of the first down mark. On the 6 yard line, Tijuana had to kick a FG to tie the game. They never got the ball back and Tijuana lost that game in OT. Max never complained once and was as supportive as he could be, while still believing that if he could only have seen the ball one more time that game, it would have ended differently for Tijuana. Therefore Max deserves the award for being the least diva-like WR in the league. Any WR would be upset with this but Max kept it together. Going into his second season Max will get the chance to prove he is the best of the best as the WR1 for the dominant Luchadores.
Tier 2.13 Expansion!
The ISFL has been around for 34 seasons now, and has grown from a small handful of teams up to 14. The goal should be to one day have separate divisions for teams when we make it up to 24+ teams. To get there we need expansion and there are a few places that need teams. Canada is home to a growing number of NFL players. One has to believe there are many future ISFL players who would embark on a career in this league once they were exposed to the league via a home team. Toronto and Vancouver seem obvious places for expansion. Both cities have covered fields thanks to the CFL and the MLS leagues. In terms of actual branding, I’d leave that to the more creative types. A more meme approach to branding would be to take a team based in Vancouver and name them the Vancouver Realtors. Their slogan can be “we crank up the score like we crank up our commissions on housing sales in the Greater Vancouver area”. Whenever they score a touchdown a giant picture of the latest mortgage rates can pop up on the jumbotron. To raise funding they can take advertisements from the local realtors to put their face up on the jumbotron with text that says something corny like “Vancouver born and raised with a passion for finding people their dream homes!” The cheerleaders can replace pom poms with mortgage interest calculators. Not sure how they would cheer with these, maybe they can juggle them or something. Finally their maskot would be a literal cardboard box with some hands and feet. He could say things like “im so sick and I cant afford food! But at least I own this cardboard box” and then he would turn around and there would be a “For Sale” sign with a fluctuating price. Sometimes it would sell for 500k which would be a bargain and get a certain type of fan pumped. But everyone now and then the box would sell for 3million and that would get the suits up in the boxes to actually excited to be at a football game. I can’t help but feel like this team design really encompasses the feel of Vancouver!
