(S44) PT #4 - Let the Good Times Roll

I've been around for almost 4 irl years now, so I've seen plenty of ups and downs. Suuuuuuper early in my ISFL career, San Jose won an ultimus. S24. It was my first season in the ISFL. I was a Linebacker playing DE. We ended up with the 1st seed eveb though all 3 playoff teams had the same 9-7 record. NOLA also had an identical 9-7 record, but was bounced on tiebreakers. We faced the legendary Franklin Armstong in the CCG and blanked him on our way to the Ultimus, where we would face off against the heavily favored 14-2 Yeti. They claimed to have cooked up a(n illegal) strat that was testing at around 85-90%, so their confidence was through the roof. We plugged away in our testing for some very specific stuff and ended up with the result we wanted. The Sabercats took home their 2nd Ultimus and I started a VC in the lockerroom where everyone got hype and had a blast reminiscing about the season. I hope to recapture that in seasons to come.

I'll be honest, I have a pretty terrible memory about what I have done and not done in ISFL. But I had a lot of fun on my previous player Goat Tank and just spamming GOAT TANK over and over again on Twitter and having this whole persona being that is about the only thing that player says. But also just becoming one of the best running backs in the game was pretty awesome too as well as it being my first player that made it into the hall of fame in any sim league. My personal favorite is honestly though in the OCO locker room, some guy was a Chargers fan and really thought Justin Herbert was like the best player to grace the planet and that anyone on any team would gladly have them on their team. Being a Chiefs fan, I said nah, I'm good with Patrick Mahomes. And he got super mad at me for saying that, cussed me out, and then quit the team and the league. I'm still not sure what happened there but it's pretty funny to be honest and I still think about it all the time.

So I joined the ISFL back as a rookie in S30 learning about the league through the Green Bay Packers subreddit. And since then I’ve never once regretted the time that I have put into the league, simply put it’s been amazing.

I’ve been very fortunate to have created some great friends and some special memories. My forest is the DSFL rookie draft night, as an EU member the draft was at 1am but it ember biting the bullet and watching it live to be drafted by the Portland Pythons, such a great team.

My best memory I have, or a collection, of memories is my time as the GM of the Portland Pythons. Seeing both recreates and rookies join the Pythons and grow into valuable and active league member has been great, admiralty there have been a few bust that’s not for this piece. 

Another great memory is when I was part of the Arizona Outlaws and wining the first of three Ultimus with them.

But most importantly my best time has been chatting general rubbish with so many great users.

It's so hard to pick out just a couple memories from my tenure here in the ISFL. There have been so many good times here that I've shared with so many friends I can't just pick one. There was always the late night gaming nights that I've shared with @ErMurazor and @caltroit_red_flames to go along with @Sweetwater and @Oles. Wonderful nights. There was our first ever championship in San Jose after we were able to get a lot of the SHL Bois over here in San Jose, remember those days @ckroyal92? The Creation of the Chicago Butchers with @Oles was also quite a fun time. Or re-taking over the Chicago Butchers with @Bayley and fixing that mess was actually quite a fun time. That first draft where we got @TheCC and some of my first messages with him and convincing him to eventually take over. Getting @Painted and trusting them to take over the team. Or Chicago's first ever Ultimus, even though @Crodyman always fucked me out of stats. Those are just some of the fantastic memories I've had here and can't wait to make more.

I’ve spent a long time as part of this league (and a lot of time also not being a part of this league, or being inactive… not the point though eh) and I’ve had many great moments; my first season with the Kansas City Coyotes living it up and learning how to sim test with good friends, getting drafted to San Jose and having some of the best times with the good people there, and eventually becoming GM for both of those teams for a cup of coffee. But the one part of those times that I remember just about more fondly than the rest of them was winning the Ultimus with San Jose in Season 24. We were written off massively throughout the season as a team forever punching above our weight, and while that may have been true, playoffs allow those types of teams to thrive. And, after a truly inspiring punting performance in the Ultimus (not to brag or anything, but McDairmid did win Offensive Player of the Game for that one!), we lifted the Ultimus for the 2nd time in SJS history. While we did proceed to win the next season in just as amazing circumstances, nothing will ever beat the amazing feeling of winning that first championship, and celebrating with the friends that were made along the way.

My favorite memory of the ISFL will always be my first ISFL draft. This was September 2020, peak lockdown time. It was the friday night of my (then) girlfriend's birthday weekend. We were driving to see her best friend who we hadn't seen since the beginning of lockdown, and our ETA was like 20-30 minutes after the start of the draft. I of course had been begging to go to Arizona, but Uni had been pretty quiet in our scouting and I wasn't sure where I'd end up. Anyways, I was narrating the draft to my girlfriend as I drove/listened to it, and right as we arrived I got picked! I was so surprised and excited that I almost crashed as I attempted to parallel park! I was expecting to go in the third or fourth round based on my scouting conversations, but I went in the beginning of the second! My entire league experience has been shaped by me going to AZ and I am so happy I ended up there.
