(S44) PT #4 - Let the Good Times Roll

I've been in the ISFL since early February of this year, which puts us at just about 9 months at this time. In that time, I've definitely experienced some phenomenal moments.

Within the sim, a lot of my favorite moments came pretty early on in my time here, when I was on the Ultimini winning Buccaneers in S40. Both of our playoff games that season were incredibly close, and both times our opponents' kickers missed multiple field goals, which made the difference in the end. Additionally, S40 saw Mary Marie enjoy her best individual performance, in which she picked off current Orange County quarterback Lloyd Bannings twice, returning one for a touchdown. However, my actual favorite moment in the sim came in the following season, when the winless Buccaneers' rookie quarterback RE #38 had a career game against the undefeated Tijuana Luchadores, who would go on to win the Ultimini that season. In an incredibly close game, RE #38 played perfectly, clutching out an amazing win and winning me a bet I had made purely as a joke. We would go on to win the next 4 or 5 games consecutively, and would make the playoffs despite a horrid start.

I have a lot of wonderful memories of the ISFL after having been a part of the league for the vast majority of its existence, joining in S14. One of my favorites, however, is winning the S23 Ultimus championship over the Austin Copperheads with the Yellowknife Wraiths. I was the Wraiths GM at the time, and we had been a dominant regular season team but had lost four straight Ultimus games from S18 through S21, which was obviously demoralizing for the team. As a leader, I felt like a failure even though I know that the sim is a fickle mistress. But winning that title in what would end up being my final season at the helm and one of the twilight years of the career of my player, Nero Alexander, was so invigorating. I watched the game on my giant TV, chatted excitedly with the locker room on Discord, and ultimately felt some of the strongest emotion I've ever felt as a part of this league. I only wish we could've given the Wraiths players who were unlucky enough to leave or retire prior to that season the title they deserved.

My favorite memory was being drafted. I didn't expect to be taken in the first round so I was surprised when I was. I definitely felt pressure to do well when I was drafted that early. I don't know if I have done as well as expected but I know that I have done as well as I can. While it's true that the team has struggled over my first two seasons, we are continuing to improve and will soon win an Ultimus. That may sound crazy to many people but we are a young team. Within 3 years we will be a playoff team and within 7 we will win the Ultimus. Even if for some unknown reason we don't, being on this team will still be my favorite memory of my time in the ISFL. Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing. On a serious note, I've never had more fun losing than I have had being on this team.

I definingly have been around for a while, considering I had a full length first player, now I chose the questionable option of being a QB. But my favorite memory so far was in S41, in my second season in Tijuana after recreating as a quarterback. That year we managed to play well enough to grab the South Division title, even if our record was just 8-5-1. But the crowning moment of the season was our playoff run that season. We won our first game 24-9 against Bondi Beach, where I had a solid game throwing for 215 yards and 2 touchdowns on the day to easily slide in the Ultimini game. The Ultimini was a much harder fought game, where we edged out Kansas  City by a score of 20-17 and my only Championship of any player DSFL or ISFL. We got up early in that game 17-0 in the second quarter but KC stormed back and tied the game at 17 with 3 seconds left in the game, and after a hard fought overtime, the game winning kick was put in with 14 seconds left. I threw for 317 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 picks, but we got the job done.

Being on my third player now, I’ve had my fair share of super memorable and amazing moments in the ISFL. From getting drafted to KCC and meeting Butters and Starboy, to winning the Ultimini as the GM of Bondi Beach, to getting drafted 1OA to Minnesota, each player in the ISFL for me has had very definitive highlights, but these three are definitely some of my top ones!

Each time I’ve been drafted in the DSFL now has brought about an insane new amount of personal opportunity, and I’ve been very blessed by the DSFL to get so many incredible experiences from it. Focusing on my most recent highlight there, but just the fact that even being as old of a player as I am now, and not really being as “impressive” as many of the other people in my draft, but the fact that I’ve made enough of an impact and built that trust at the DSFL level to go so high is extremely validating and something I’m very honored by. It’s been an incredibly fun time being a part of Minnesota, and I’ve still got plenty of memories to make with the crew here, which I no doubt will.

Written option: A lot of us have been part of the ISFL for many seasons. What has been some of your favorite memories to note?

My favorite memories from the ISFL after 3 and ¾ season/8 months in the league are probably my early days in the league when I was still learning how everything worked and how I didn’t understand much of anything. It was all pretty fresh to me and everything seemed to be more sunshine and rainbows. After that, there are also a few other memorable moments. Mainly the chaos that was DSFL S40 draft night, with a full on riot, the negs pings, the delay, getting picked, and the stream not getting saved. Then of course, quite a few memories of goofing off with my peers in gen chat. I think I value mostly all 4 of my drafts so far. But since that’s not that interesting and I need a few more words, here’s one that’s peculiar: When I was an auditor, I has to audit someone at the request at good ol Sconnie. And so, I ended up spending about 2 hours checking the poor man’s updates, and he has 23 extra TPE. Good times.

It's been over twenty ISFL seasons as a member of the league and I have observed numerous phenomena ranging from rebuilds to dominant, godlike seasons that were all-timers. As a lifer of the Second Line, I have seen many cups and downs, which unfortunately, I have seen way more down moments. However, there was a bright stretch between the s26 and s27 seasons. In s26, we started a bit slow, but managed to go on a win streak to secure the three seed. We then went on a crazy run in the playoffs to make the Ultimus. Unfortunately, we got blown out by the Sailfish, ending our run. However, the next season, s27, was even more fun. Yet again, we went on a late win streak to make the playoffs. However, it was due to our QB, Ben Slothisburger, having a top 5 season of all history. Riding the wave, we yet again made the ultimus, but fell short to the Wraiths.

I've been a part of this league since about S13, and have been active ever since. I've had two hall of fame players Franklin Armstrong, and Big Slammu who've had a lot of awards, championships and recognition over the past couple years in this league. My favourite memories of this league surround Franklin Armstrong in particular. His career went nearly perfectly outside of a crappy Ultimus loss. Despite the loss the three MVPs, the three Ultimus rings, and all the other accolades were something I didn't think were possible. I was given the impression that I may never get to be a starting quarter back and even if I do, the odds that I'll have a great career were slim. Not only did I have a great career, Armstrong dominated in unique fashion. I doubt I'll ever reach the highs of Armstrong pulling off a huge run, or winning MVPs again. Maybe I will for a future player!
