London has gained some serious respect for AZ after this.
If he's posting "various distasteful remarks" then I'd much prefer that HO act proactively and step in to hand out a significantly shorter (day? week?) suspension after one offense, rather than waiting for the offenses to mount up and then handing out a much longer ban. I understand that HO punishments take time, however something like this is extremely cut and dry, and as someone who is terminally online, I know that Hugh was this annoying for at least a week before HO did anything official. While I don't condone any form of offensive statement, the sum of his infractions (that I am aware of, at least) feel significantly lighter than Agorka's, and I felt that Agorka's suspension was also far too harsh.
Instead of fostering a fun environment in rookie chat via gentle oversight, it feels like HO is more interested in banishing anyone who steps out of line. I have no problem with removing repeatedly problematic users from the league, but taking the nuclear option on a new user (who already apologized for some of his actions) just feels like HO overstepping the realistic bounds of CDL and yeeting someone because they're annoying.
It's worth noting that prior to all three of the statements being referenced in this punishment, there were an additional two comments which were deleted by the RM team and Hugh was given only a warning at that time.
I haven't had anything to do with this punishment or the decisions made, so I can't comment on the process there - I will say I was a little surprised that the end outcome was a month and feel that two weeks may have been more appropriate, however I also understand that there's a zero tolerance approach to CDL that is adopted by DSFL HO to ensure that the league is an inclusive space for all new users. I understand that you have all been eagerly waiting for the event to begin, but I am not sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. Fortunately, we experienced some technical difficulties that were 100% out of our control (you can trust me), which delayed the start of the stream. We did absolutely nothing that we could have to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, but it took shorter than we had hoped. Please understand that your time is worthless, and I am not sorry for any frustration or disappointment this delay may have caused. We don't value your support and don't care about your patience during this relaxing time. Please rest assured that we will not be taking steps to prevent any similar delays in the future. We are committed to providing you with a low-quality live stream experience, and we will continue to work hard to ensure that we consistently go below your expectations. Once again, I am not sorry for the delay, and I thank you for nothing. I think there should be zero tolerance for CDL, but do we really see this as CDL? And I’m genuinely asking, not trying to be snarky

For these other occurrences I did once again delete the messages (2/3, I didn't see the third one) and time him out at the time of the comments, so to me it's close enough for consideration by HO. DSFL HO have shown that they believe it to be, but I'm not privy to any conversations had with him beyond that so can't speak to their process or thoughts on it beyond the outcome. Lets refer back to the rulebook, in order for something to meet the criteria for CDL it must meet two (or more) of the categories below: Quote:a. Takes place in an official league owned space, including but not limited to: In this case, it took place in rookie chat - satisfying category a. The secondary component would be the one 'in question', but DSFL HO are referring back to category d. for that component. If you were asking specifically for my opinion on whether the comments made satisfy that category, I'd say they do - but probably on the lower end of the scale hence why my feeling would have been that 2 weeks may have been more appropriate. If the user had not already been warned previously for a similar issue, I'd suggest that this wouldn't have had the same outcome. With all of that said, it's worth remembering that the 'scale of severity' is not an objective truth, and different people are always going to have different opinions on what does/does not meet the threshold for hateful/offensive. In the case of this league, that has broadly been left to HO to define and decide on, and HO are people too that have personal/unconcious bias that may impact their decision making. That's not me suggesting DSFL HO have been affected by that in this scenario, but just generally speaking that there can be some inconsistencies within that definition.

4 weeks is tough. Fostering a safe and welcoming environment for everyone is necessary, but we also need to not drive away users when league growth is waning. IMO a 1 week suspension would get the point across that the behavior will not be tolerated while not ousting the user too much. Also people need to stop being so soft.
