Hello Dropbear. Thanks for the complement, I too like tracking trades and seeing who won in the future. I want to do this with the first round of each draft too, eventually. I admittedly wish there were more trades that happen in this league though. I also am open for discussion on the post, so I'll address what you have to say.

Ignoring all of his contributions and simply saying that the first trade netted us nothing but Logan Lejune (who I'm extremely excited about) is asinine. It's akin to saying the Broncos only got 'a few good years' out of Peyton Manning. What PDX did for Colorado extends far beyond results in the game or stats. But those intangible things can't be recorded in the sim, so it's understandable you'll miscalculate the value of that trade for our franchise.
I totally agree with you that Kamaka is a beast. PDX is an awesome locker room dude and overall a great user. But what "contributions" did he really put in for you guys except win your first game in like two seasons? You guys didn't go anywhere in the playoffs. You relate this situation to Manning in Denver which is so odd. For one, Manning spent more than two and a half seasons in Denver. Number two, Manning took the Broncos to two Super Bowls, winning one. Kamaka's impact took you to two conference championships in a weak conference, winning none. And this isn't anything against Kamaka. Simply put, Kamaka is in a position where making a huge impact is hard to do. And it showed throughout his tenure in Colorado.
Like I said, PDX is awesome. But you can't possibly tell me that you'd take two and a half seasons of Kamaka and Lejune over Brown, Deringer, Falconi, and Robertson.

You can't frame it as though he was inactive when we picked him. When Ludvig was drafted, he was a top prospect, and played a position of need for the Yeti, and had expressed interest in playing in Colorado. The decision to draft him was the correct one at the time. It's very easy to look back at draft picks in hindsight, armed with the knowledge of who is or isn't active, and question people's decisions. But at the time, the pick was one that made sense, and was agreed upon around the league.
Also, you do realise Deringer and Harp were off the board when we picked, right?
And while we're at it, take a look at what Ludvig achieved this past season as an IA compared with the superstar cornerback Andre Bly Jr. you got from us for exactly 1 season for the cost of a 2nd-round pick. I know who I'd rather of the two given the hindsight you love to use for your arguments.
I'm one for drafting best available player over drafting position of need, but that's just me. Both Deringer and Harp were better prospects than Ludvig, and had you not traded down, you could have had your pick of either of those two. I also think you could have gotten more for the pick instead of 10 mil in S9 cap which to my knowledge, was used for nothing, but I also wasn't the one negotiating trades, so I don't know.
And yeah, I'd rather take Bly and Kamaka over Ludvig and the second which was used for Lejune, if that's what your asking. Bly and Kamaka made us one of, if not the best defense in the league, and we were contending for a playoff spot with a rookie QB. Bly and Kamaka were used to soften the fact that we had a rookie QB and that she'd be making a lot of mistakes. I personally think our defense is at a point now where we don't need either of them at this point, but the very chance of Bly going inactive and signing a deal with us OR wanting to continue staying here is a chance that we needed to take. Philly is at a position where we don't need more prospects, we're at a spot where we can win with the right high TPE players.

He did butt heads with the GMs at times, but as far as the trade you're referencing is concerned, he was on board. So, that's something else you can strike off your list.
Look, I'm not knowledgeable about the inner workings of the S8 Yeti. I'm just saying that if Colorado had more talent, I don't know if Daybe would want to leave. You guys couldn't plan for that so that makes sense. But it's still a valid point to bring up.
(12-05-2018, 06:28 AM)dropbear Wrote:Finally, the trades leading up to the S9 draft happened under a different GM pairing. Infinite wasn't even in the leadership group back then, let alone a GM. The decisions he and I are making for the future of this franchise are separate to those made prior to our tenure. But even with that said, I don't think the choices made by the past GMs were wrong given the context of the time. We were unfortunate to have guys go inactive, but we also got a lot out of that trade that meant more to us than the perception of 'winning or losing' the trade itself.
I'm not trying to diss the management group of Colorado. I'm just looking back at this trade and pointing out how crazy it turned out to be. And yes, it wouldn't have been a bad trade back then... had the timeline worked out in your favor. As a GM, you need to be aware that things can change. Guys go inactive, people want to leave, etc. You can't plan for winning in S10/S11, which is exactly what Colorado had in mind when making this trade.
