Lucas Knight remembers his draft day as being exciting yet a bit disappointing. “I had decided to spend draft day in my apartment, I really needed some quiet time to calm down and wait for my name to be off the board. Before it started, I phoned my parents to remind them of the event and they were very happy to stay up until I got drafted; they told me a couple of times how much they were proud of my effort and that they were going to support me no matter what team chose me.
Since the S15 draft class was one of the biggest in recent times, I thought I would have to wait to round 4 or 5 to be drafted since there were quite a number of interesting defensive back prospects. When it didn't happen, I just became a little bit desperate, until I was selected by Norfolk at round 8, being the third cornerback drafted. That was surprising, since I was expecting to go to the Solar Bears or the Pythons, because they were the only teams that talked to me during the Prospect Bowl week.
Obviously I was disappointed that I had to wait that much time to hear my name, but I took it as motivation and swore to give it all with the SeaWolves so that everyone sees what they lost when I was overlooked. That was what I told the GM when I got the call, as well as how exciting it was to play for Norfolk.
After the draft finished, I went with some of my college ex teammates to celebrate big time; after all, it was one of the happiest days of my life and I couldn't wait to meet my new team and start my DSFL career.”
