1) Playoff Predictions, Reviews:
Written: Give a short write up of one or multiple playoff matches. If completed before the airing of the sims have predictions, after if it is a review the game.
Graphic: Make a graphic displaying the match ups in the playoffs. If completed before sim, predict scores and show stats, if after, give a summary of game showing stats and top performers.
This years playoff results are an anomaly like that of which has never been seen before in the NSFL. Every home team in the playoffs lost. The championship game excluded. Home teams are usually heavily favored in the playoffs. So much so that it has only happened a few times. But congrats to the Philadelphia Liberty and San Jose Sabercats in accomplishing that feat. The Orange County Otters and the Baltimore Hawks showed you up in the regular season but you put up the points when it matter the most. That allowed you a spot in the Ultimus Championship game. The Liberty really showed off their offensive power in the first game and the Hawks tried as much as they could to keep up. They just were unable to do so. The Liberty won that high scoring game 31 to 28. The next game was the Sabercats vs the Otters. The Otters have been dominant in the NSFL since the beginning. But this year the Sabercats decided that they were going to be the top dogs. The Otters trailed by one score at the end of the game and there was just no way that was going to happen against the stout Sabercats defense.
3) All about the QBs
Written: Write 200 words on one of the QB matchups in this year's playoffs. What are you most excited to see (Or excited to have seen), who will play better (Or who played better), etc.
Graphic: Create a graphic on a QB matchup, (Pictures with side-by-side statistics).
In the Ultimus game there were two younger QB’s in Adriana Falconi who plays for the Philadelphia Liberty and Joliet Christ who plays for the San Jose Sabercats. On paper the stats didn’t look great or prolific by either QB. They looked… good enough. However when you look at Sabercats QB Joliet Christ you will see that they didn’t punt one time! That to means that Christ was able to manage the game perfectly aside from the 1 interception he threw. When the offense walked onto the field they made the most of every opportunity by scoring at least 3. On the Liberty side they were able to put up some big yardage plays but eventually the drives would stall and they would have to give the ball back to the Sabercats. So unless they were able to put up numbers like they did in the playoff game against the Hawks, they were destined to lose. No one can really blame the QB in Philadelphia though as the running game was anemic at best. Fast Boija ran 10 and was only able to gain 29 yards. The Sabercats basically made sure he couldn’t run and dared Falconi to throw and new the mistakes would happen and eventually break down the offense. They were right.
5) Spotlight on Youth - Only task that is specifically for the NSFL and not DSFL
Written: Write 200 words on one of the players in this year's Ultimus Week that are Season 12 or newer and spotlight on how they can affect this year's Ultimus. (Or have affected)
Graphics: Create a graphic of a Season 12 or newer player with a statistical breakdown on their season.
This years spotlight is on Fast Boija of the Philadelphia Liberty. He was an incredible running back for the San Antonio Marshal’s in the DSFL before being drafted by the Liberty. The Liberty was looking for a fresh, talented back after the team had become sour with league leading rusher Marquise Brown. Brown was looking for that ultimus trophy and probably some money as well and sought another team. That team was the Baltimore Hawks, who ultimately fell to the Liberty in the playoffs. Brown was the player they needed in the Ultimus, not Boija. But Boija is young and very very talented. There will be a time that he will overtake Brown as the best rusher in the NSFL but this year was not that year. Boija ranked 7th in rushing overall compiling less than half of Brown’s numbers. Boija will definitely turn into an amazing player if all the records he shattered in the DSFL translates to a career in the NSFL. He currently holds the most yards in a season in the DSFL and I dont think that will change hands anytime soon. It is just going to be a learning curve in the NSFL for Boija as everyone is so much fast and stronger. Time to hit up the weight room and maybe add some more muscle mass.
7) Next year
Written: If your team has been eliminated, why will next year, or the year after that, be the year that your team is going to win the Ultimus or Ultimini.
Graphics: Create a statistical summary of what improvements your team has made from the previous year or why your team was better than their record.
So the Yeti were eliminated from playoff contention pretty early in the season due to numerous departures of key players in key positions. They started off too slowly and the management decided it was time to start over. Howard Miller announced his retirement and was traded from the team to the Baltimore Hawks. He went from Primary receiver to maybe 3rd or 4th string. Not the ideal place to go but he was hopeful for a championship run which ultimately was taken away in the first round of the playoffs. Also announcing his retirement was the QB of the Mycycle McCormick. McCormick stayed and finished out the season and will also play next season in hope of helping the Yeti through their tough transition period but the team will now have to find his replacement sooner than later. So this is more of the year after that or the year after type of write up. The Yeti will have to make huge key additions in the locker room if they want to stay competitive with the other team in the division who are always making moves to get better as well. Looking like seasons 18 or 19 at this point. But if the can create some sort of consistency and not a revolving door at positions of great importance, they will be all set for years to come.
