I’ve officially had one off-season now and it was a lot wilder than I would have imagined. I spent my first season playing for the Kansas City Coyotes, only to find out around draft time that our team would be contracting. That meant that if I didn’t called up, I would be playing for a new team in the DSFL. I felt quite conflicted on the matter. I consider myself a very loyal person. I don’t care for players jumping ship and ring chasing. If there are circumstances that make things unbearable, that’s one thing. Jumping teams because of a down season is another. The Coyotes will always be my first home and it sucks watching them contract the way they did. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity they gave me, and I won’t forget it
On the flip side, everything happens for a reason. I went second overall in the contraction draft to the Tijuana Luchadores. My GM was so excited to have me, and it really gave me good vibes about having to join a new team. At the time, we didn’t know if I would be playing there next season, but it really didn’t matter. To see the faith he already had in me showed me that I ended up in a great situation. The next big moment came in the NSFL draft.
It’s the moment I have been looking forward to for a long time now. Various GMs reached out to me and I knew there were a couple teams I wanted to play for above the others. When the actual draft came around, I was thrilled to hear my name called out 8th overall by the New Orleans Second Line. I felt a great connection to the team, and I knew I was once again in a great situation. I spent the time since both drafts getting to know my new teammates and it’s been great. I can’t wait for the season to start and see how everything shakes out.
I hope the DSFL is ready for the Luchadores this season. We have so many young and active guys in the locker room along with veteran players mixed in there. Keep an eye on that Mason Blaylock guy, he is hungry and looking to build off his Defensive Rookie of the Year season.
