Last year was a really tough one in some ways. I know that seems weird to say when we were the second best team in the league, but I think that also encapsulates it in a way. The people and players in Yellowknife have been waiting for a championship for so long and after getting so close and having our own curse break us yet again, it really dampened our spirits. Looking back on the offseason though, I think we went about lifting our spirits and mentality the right way. The first thing was to let everyone go off on their own for two to three weeks. This was to let everyone blow off steam get through any heartaches and demons in their own way and on their own time. After everyone was able to do this, we then all started training camp at the same time. Some might feel that we were not given a long offseason, but our ‘training camp’ was not really your usual stuff you see. The first few weeks were firmly focused on team bonding. We of course have a great group of players here in Yellowknife, but after a tough loss like we had, it was good to get everyone on the same page and making sure that we give 110% to each other, to make sure we are in the best position to win this season. One of the most memorable days was when we went to the biggest theme park in Yellowknife, Spookyville and were able to almost nonstop ride the main attraction, The Spookycoaster. Overall I was happy with how we put the loss behind us and are ready for the new season!
