My old teammate, Austin Roenick @Leafer, is a shoo in for the hall of fame. He started off in the DSFL as a quarterback but selflessly position switched and became a middle linebacker, the quarterback of our defense if you will. He was an amazing player from the beginning, winning the defensive rookie of the year award. He was a balanced linebacker with many strengths and no weaknesses. He was a sideline to sideline defender who was incredible against the run. He was also great at dropping into coverage and rushing the quarterback. He was the smartest defender in the league, most of the time he knew what play the offense was going to call. Over the course of his twelve year career with the Hawks he became the NSFL’s all time tackles leader at 1,235. That’s more than 100 more than 2nd place. He’s also second all time in forced fumbles and fumble recoveries. Over those twelve seasons he earned a pro bowl spot 9 times, which is incredible for how competitive the LB spots are. Roenick experienced absolute glory twice with the Hawks winning the season 10 and season 15 Ultimus games. If he’s not a unanimous selection for the Hall of Fame than the voting committee needs to enter rehab. (212 words)
