As a rookie without previous experience following the ISFL, I've taken my usual strategy with teams and that is to pick favourites based on brands (I am a massive branding/graphic design nerd). Something new, exciting, using colours that aren't overdone and mascots that are original and flavourful to the region it represents and the game they play will always be closer in my heart than results on the field are. I can go for a perennial underdog, I can't go for the 300th "Wildcats". So what does this have to do with S T O N K S ? Well, turns out my predictions were earning me more than a few of my far more experienced team mates, and it's all thanks to 1 team.
The good ol' Green n Blue
Your wins give me TPE too
The ISFL had no clue
The Sarasota Sailfish, cheers to you
Sarasota seemed to be dismissed early on. I don't know the history as to why but a quick check shows they picked in the top half last year so they obviously didn't perform well. Even so, screaming out the gate to a 4-0 start is incredible and because they're using colours not seen outside the Pacific North West (and a brighter scheme too) and the rarely used in football 'water mascot' I've been gleefully clinging on for the ride. While I assume the league will cotton on and my relative TPE gains will diminish I'm thankful for the minor hand up they've given me in my first week of regular season earnings. May they continue full sail to the playoffs and take any losses in stride to 'just keep swimming'.
Secondary shout to Honolulu who've quietly gone 2-2 after also picking high in the last draft, but I have a hard time telling if that was expected of them given the state of the ASFC right now.
