Ten games into the season and the London Royals found themselves leading the NFC North after an impressive six wins on the bounce. Despite this, there are other teams out there who will take pleasure in taking them down. None other than Myrtle Beach, who ended that winning run in week 11. A turning point? Not at all. The Royals regrouped, won in week 12, securing a playoff birth.
Now the Royals group this season were under pressure from the start. Ultimini holders and the vast majority of those major players then leaving to join the ISFL ranks. That said, Cortez is throwing with great precision, Yaki already 1000 yards, Burfict is grabbing sacks all over the place to give you just three examples.
Plus the rookies who have come in have really stepped up and have a real hunger for a title defence. There are several high earners, a couple even maxing out in TPE this week, and some real stand out performances across the board in offence as well as defence – I’m sure the better scouts will be taking note (you all know Speedman broke the DSFL receiving record right... in week 4, for example).
Sure, the Royals are still a lot weaker this season than last, but the heart, desire and pure will to win shown in this group could see them once again go all the way. They just need to continue playing with freedom and enjoying themselves out there on the field.
Now my one major concern would be next season as the Royals will likely lose key players again, perhaps also a number of high earning rookies, which would make another shot at Ultimini a lot lot harder... time will tell.
