Well, as they say in the business, its not looking good. The Yellowknife Wraiths are wrapping up a rebuilding season, looking to hopefully finish with a 7-9 record as they have one final home game remaining against the Chicago Butchers. The struggles for the Wraiths have been primarily on defense, specifically on pass defense. Offensively the team is middle of the pack, fifth in the conference in terms of yards and fourth in points. However on defense, its a different matter. The Wraiths are near the bottom for points allowed and at the bottom for pass yards allowed. The run defense, however, has been outstanding. Yellowknife is third in the league in rush yards allowed per game. Next season, the Wraiths will need to evaluate their passing game and fill some serious gaps if they hope to get back into contention. Still, this result isn't completely unexpected, given that Yellowknife traded away future-hall-of-fame running back Mathias Hanyadi for young offensive line talent Bruce Buckley. The Wraiths are now a couple seasons removed from their second Ultimus Championship, and the changing of the guard had to happen sooner or later. Still, with moves like picking up Buckley and taking cornerback Dan Foster second overall in last season's draft, Yellowknife at least is aware of their situation and are taking steps to correct it. There is cause for optimism, though. Quarterback Colby Jack has led a potent passing attack all season and is entering his prime. Offensively, players like Kai Sakura and Jameson Vermillion, are stepping up as well. The season is basically over for the Wraiths, but there is still promise for next year.
