One of the wonderful and welcoming things about the ISFL is that there are many ways to find “success” as a player and a user. What defines success for me (Mojojojo) and my player (Ernest Lover) won’t necessarily be the same as what defines success for my teammates, but the fact that we can coexist and have fun together is what makes the experience so diverse and special. So first and foremost, my success in the league as a user is defined by the friendships and personal connections that I make along my journey. Getting to know new people who I probably would never have had the opportunity to meet if it weren’t for sim football and the community that it creates.
I have always been more competitive with myself than with others. So, when it comes to my player, what matters to me is keeping up with my player development tasks and earning as much TPE as I can. Updating my player each week and helping Ernest Lover be the strongest contributor to the team has been my main metric of success. I’m not too concerned with stats or records for my player (although a pro bowl or two would feel nice). But I am fully invested in team success and I feel acutely each win and loss as if I were really out on the field (although with fewer physical bruises). So now just finishing my first season as a GM, I am expanding my definition of success in the league to look long-term at developing a Sarasota Sailfish roster that will have a good time together and be competitive for seasons to come.
