14. Describe your player and/or team’s journey through this latest season. What were the highlights? What were the lower points? What might you have done differently? What are your expectations for next season?
Cuttino Mobley had an impressive rookie season, making the DSFL pro bowl with 82 tackles, 3 interceptions, and a solid 16 pass deflections. Despite his successful debut season, he fell far in the draft due to character issues. Mobley used this as motivation for his sophomore season, eager to show the Arizona Outlaws that they made the right choice in drafting him.
Mobley’s second season started out lukewarm. As one of the top cornerbacks in the league, he played up to his standards in the first half of the season. Notably his coverage improved as the CB1 for the Dallas Birddogs, but showed off his improvement in stopping the run as well. Overall the Dallas Birddogs had a significantly worse defense this past season, despite some stellar talent, but was elevated by the big leap taken by the offense, notably Christian Marciano’s MVP caliber season.
Although individually Mobley had a decent first half of the season as well as the Dallas Birddogs overall, Mobley really kicked it into second year towards the latter half of the season. Most notably his week 12 performance against the Portland Pythons was an all time great DSFL performance and Mobley’s best game of his career thus far. He recorded a staggering 3 interceptions, two of which being pick sixes and one being a clutch stop at the waning minutes of the 4th quarter, helping secure the win. The final score was 34-30, where Mobley contributed 14 points on the defensive end.
His success continued into the playoffs, playing a key role in the dominant victory the Dallas Birddog’s bitter rival and playoff favorite, the Tijuana Luchadores. Mobley contributed another pick six in the division championship game, and helped the Birddogs secure another Ultimini to their legacy.
Mobley closed out the season with 91 tackles, 4 interceptions, and 23 pass deflections.
9. Through a random lottery drawing, you have been named the league's new commisioner for a day. Congrats! What improvements would you make to the league if you had the power to do whatever you wanted?
The league setup is pretty solid, however there could be a few improvement overall that would help with the immersion of the league.
Although with regression, archetypes, and traits characters can have a good level of customization, they do not really feel unique. I think it would be better to not only have a hard cap on stats when first creating a player, but have the player customize the caps for each attribute when starting out. Similar to DND or other derivate games, this would be reliant on a standard amount of points that is the same for each player (separate from TPE) where more points are used as you increase a cap. This way a player’s skills are truly unique.
Also I would allow players to have multiple characters at the same time (maybe a maximum of 3) to allow people to experience different positions. This would also go hand in hand with expanding the league and placing more of an emphasis on other leagues within the league, i.e. more of a soccer type setup where there are multiple leagues that are more or else similar in skill level. This would be more engaging and increase the level of activity. Acquiring TPE would have to be adjusted but there would be multiple league championships and then a champion’s league type setting for the top teams in each league. This would also help the seasons go by slower, and provide more satisfaction for the players.
Although the sim is in reality unpredictable to an extent, I would reward players that perform well in the sim without TPE/more money for individual success. Making the pro bowl or getting awards should also give TPE. Similar thing for winning the championships. This doesn’t really incentivize anything since players can’t control the sim, but having to do things like constantly write or make Twitter posts is a little lame. I get the argument that you have limited creativity since you want everyone to have an equal opportunity to earn TPE, however it already has the ability to be imbalanced (i.e. graphics options, prompts about league history).
