Prompt 4: Sim going to Sim
Sim is going to Sim sounds like the perfect way to sum up what happened this season for the Orange County Otters. This season seemed like everything that could go wrong in a tight game, which was almost every game, went wrong for us. Looking back at this season if we were to flip each game that we lost by less than one which would be 7 games of the 16 game season I might add. Our record would have flipped from 5-11 to be 12 – 4 which is crazy to think because it would have been the best record in the ASFC. Better then Honolulu at 11-5. Now of course while saying this I am aware that would mean that every game we lost would have had a different outcome. So why don’t we take a closer look at a few games in particular. The first one being against NOLA. We lost a nail bitter by a score of 28-26. Penalties decided to be a major factor in this one with 5-39 against the Otters compared to 2-15 for NOLA. These penalties aided the Secondline to keep some stalled out drives alive and give NOLA the lead. But when all is said and done it was a missed 2PT conversion that would have tied the game with 3 min left after a 30 yard Bus touchdown, that proved to the be the difference. Jump to week 7 where once again the Otters lost by 2 PTS. Despite scoring a couple key touchdowns at the end of the game and converting on the 2pt attempt on the first one once again the Otters failed a 2 PT attempt that would have tied the game inside the two minute warning. A key stat in this game was 2 fumbles both being lost. The Sim gods really had it in for us in this one, piling on 5 penalties for 41 yards as well. Again the next week it was a close one dropping a 1 point game to the Chicago butchers. This one was just a tight battle that ended up coming short. Not to much to report other then it was a penalty filled game with a total of 11 – 71 yards. 6 by the butchers and 5 by the Otters. Are you sensing a bit of trend here? Because I sure am. In Week 10 we circle back to NOLA and once again fall 3 pts short. This one stung because a missed FG to end the half is what ended up being the difference in it. On a rare Dole miss between the 40-49 yard distance. He nails that it is a different game. Looking closer yet again turnovers seemed to catch up. Skipping the next couple games as losing 17-10 two weeks in a row really show that there was chances that just didn’t go our way and really could have gone either way as both Defences played extremely well. But in week 15 it was cemented that it would be that kind of season when we lost to the Sailfish 14-13. The Otters committed 12 penalties for 100 yards. Despite this we came that close. So when we talk about this season about the sim going to sim it seems as though the Otters from Orange county know all to well what that actually means. In what was probably one of the most bizarre seasons every on paper the otters who hardly committed a penalty the previous season appeared to become WWE superstars overnight. Racking up multiple penalties and infractions compared to their competitors. Even with all that handcuffing them they were able to stay close in each game but would eventually come up short. What a wild and tough season it was. Coming off a Ultimus appearance to go back to the second worst record in the league is a tough pill to swallow but at the end of the day all you can really say is Sim is going to Sim.
