Quote:Written option: As much as we'd like to believe so, our players aren't perfect. With every win and loss, there's high emotions. With every game, there's mistakes that turn into flags and heartbreak. Every team's response to these kind of situations is different depending on the sort of discipline that team and their players have. For this PT, talk about what sort of strategies your team employs in order to keep everyone emotionally and mechanically disciplined. How do your teams get players to avoid making silly penalties or putting holes through the wall after a game?
The New York Silverbacks have created a new way and fresh way to ensure that the players on the team play a disciplined game and that they are ready and fit to play. That strategy is that anytime a Silverbacks player takes an on-field penalty, that player has to spend one minute in the cage with the Koko the gorilla, the New York Silverbacks real live gorilla (mascot). Needless to say, not many of the players have taken a penalty since that rule was implemented. It works most of the time. Obviously, there are times where this unique form of punishment has backfired. The team has lost 2 offensive tackles who did not survive the "monkey minute" as it is referred to playfully by the team. And yeah sure, the lawsuits were hefty and at times difficult for the team. However, the management team of New York believe that the ends justify the means if the end result is fewer penalties on the field. Job well done.
