Frustration definitely is a part of the game and something that gets to all of us. I would love to say that the way we control frustration in the game is to simply just not lose, but unfortunately that is not the case. From a coach's perspective, we always have to keep an eye out for escalating emotions and be sure to pull players from the game that are letting their emotions get the best of them. From an individual perspective, I always try to keep a lighthearted approach and not engage with the opposing team after the play. Most penalties after the play tend to come from retaliation often continue to escalate after that. As an incentive for players to keep their cool during the game, we also treat the players to an ice cream party after each game if they are able to successfully make it through the game without any unsportsmanlike penalties.
